Hey there, I am a fresh owner of a BambuLab X2D. The initial happiness found a sudden end once I was confronted with an unpleasent issue. I started my X2D journey with the dual color panda model. The print failed twice at around 90% because it failed to switch the nozzle. This always happens when it wants to switch from the aux nozzle to the main one. It uses the switch to move the Flow Blocker to the Aux hotend but fails to reach the end position and ends in a loop of rehoming and retrying the nozzle switching movement. After 3 tries it gives up and pauses the print with an error message. Moving the flow blocker by hand to it’s end point solves the problem until it happens again.
It appears that I have some kind of issue with my mechanism. It is also clearly visible that the flow Blocker is not sitting in the middle of the Aux Hotend. That is not an issue with the main hotend where it’s sitting right in the middle where it should be. I can always move the flowblocker for the last missing 1 or 2 mm by hand but the mechanism itself (when the printer does the motion) fails to it all the way.
Did someone here have the same issue?

Edit: I have now tried it after some restarts and also with a model sliced by myself. The issue persists and it keeps giving me the Error code: 07FE-8020 over and over again (everytime when the issue appears).
It appears as if the spring retention mechanism which is responsible for the flow stopper to get into it’s final position is somewhat faulty. It quickly snaps into the right position for the main hotend but not for the Aux-Hotend.
And yes I already contacted the support and I am eagerly waiting for a reply to my ticket.
By chance, have you checked to see if there’s any firmware updates you need to do? I thought this was an early issue resolved by a firmware update but am not 100% positive.
If on wifi, I think the only way it pushes a new update (at least for me) was by powering off the machine with the switch on the back and back on.
moving the flow stopper to its endpoint by hand seems to solve the problem for a short time but it usually reappears within an hour or so.
I am currently in contact with the support and they are offering me to send the replacement parts but I am still waiting for an reply because I want to know which parts need replacement. I am not good with this kind of work.
It usually shouldn’t fail because it pauses the print when it fails to switch the hotend. This is obviously not an acceptable situation. We paid for a flawlessly working dual hotend 3D printer where we expect that everything works out of the box.
Have you attempted to completely replace the flow blocker? I have noticed that about 80% of my issues are resolved by simply removing and reinstalling, or just replacing a simple part.
Have you attempted to remove the flow blocker and do you have photos?
The issue persists even without an installed Aux-Hotend. It is visible that the spring mechanism or whatever causes the flow blocker to jump into the final position is faulty on the right side.
I have the same issue. After a print that failed hard (don’t even know how), the filament went under the silicon sock… I had a hard time to clean that mess, and I wasn’t able to remove all plastic from there, even with a new nozzle.
Since that incident, I have a lot of failed hotend switch (same error 07FE-8020). I managed to reduce those error drastically by removing both silicone socks. I don’t know if it’s OK to print without them, but I recently printed a 4 color piece with around 60 nozzle switch without a single issue, with silicone socks I had roughly 50% failure rate. Apart from 2 soft fails saying the nozzle can’t reach temperature, I do nothing apart from clicking continue, and it continues without problem, happened 2 times on a 22h print.
Yes, it’s raised, but if it’s set up, it means it’s been done for something. I do not know what position you have it in, but it might be worth trying to set it up.
Yeah.. That video shows something way wrong. I’ve got a few of these machines and just moved one by hand to test. Yes, there’s a fulcrum / a point at which the nozzle switch could remain in the middle if you manually move it there, but the instant it’s past the fulcrum it snaps in place to whatever nozzle side you want. Yours seems to be binding at the end.
I don’t know how far you’ve looked into it, but it seems like something is rubbing / not adjusted correctly on yours. It should not require that last little push you are doing to get the nozzle to move up all the way. It’s either moved all the way over or not (on mine) at least.
That’s what I thought… it’s frustrating to have this with a new printer (out of the box) but this is the first time that something like this has happened to my BambuLab printers (X2D is my third printer from BambuLab).
I hope for a quick replacement to continue my printing journey…
I got X2D for first day and after 2 test prints i already have this extruder switching failed problem. Does anyone already resolve this issue? It is pretty sad. It is my first printer and was really looking forward to start printing but got stuck with this fail. Tried 15times to turn it off and on and norhing changed and everything is clean with no obstruction.
Do you know what firmware version you are running with your X2D? What version is your slicer software?
I guess the first thing to do is let us know what exactly you got (accessories included), what you are trying to print, and maybe share the Bambu Slicer file so we can see your settings.
It may not be the machine, but how the slicer is set up. More information would help us help you.
Update your X2D to the newest firmware version please.
Please also make a video of the hotend switching process.

Small update from my side:
I contacted BambuLab support and they agreed to a replacement printer. I made a deposit for an advance replacement and I will probably get my printer in the next 2 days or so.
Got X2D with AMS2Pro. I printed out only the preinstalled things so one scrapper and then the boat (both one color only, have just one PLA spool) so i didnt even start printing other things or using slicer much. I am using Bambulab PLA that i bought with it. Extruder when i switch manually with the lever both looks fine and it is moving ok. When I start printing it normaly extrudes filament while it is in the inital check of changing filament and cleaning. If i start print of preinstalled boat and didnt turn of Calibrating dynamic flow it stays in this phase and dont procced to next one. If i turn it off it then tells me that Extruder change failed. Also all the time i start printing it always give me error The Part cooling fan is slow or stopped but it is running still the same (checked connection of cable and nothing seems wrong with it)
I tried to run calibration again and now it gives me eddy current sensor.

Sometimes i have to restart the printer with button to unload filament and it gives me also the Extruder change failed. I am really hopeless with it.
