Printer manually extruding but not printing 3d models

Bambu P1P has an odd problem, I can manually extrude the filament easy but alas when I come to print something nothing happens?

Thanks,

Jason

Welcome to the forum! Is it showing any sort of error or is the print head moving around like the printer thinks it’s printing?

Welcome to the forum.

Check that the SD card is installed and if so try another one. A failing SD card can cause print issues.

Yes it’s moving around thinking it’s printing but nothing is coming out. I just tried printing from my phone a small ring as a test and that worked mostly fine. I’m now wondering if it’s something to do with printing from the PC, will try again tomorrow.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

No problem, we’re happy to help. Give what Jon said a try with the SD card when you try again.

Sounds like a nozzle clog or the extruder is jammed.

Here is the wiki page for determine which has happened.

Here is how to fix it. The article is for a X series printer but the procedure is the same for the P.

try using dawn dish soap and clean the plate.

Hello, thanks you for the wiki links @JonRaymond.
I had the same kind of issue…
I made a mistake when printing a model setup for ASA with my standard PLA. It ended in a clog and I could not load and print.
I applied the nozzle heating procedure and it now works fine

Glad you got your clog sorted out.

Managed to temporarily print by cleaning, unloading, extruding, cleaning and many other things. The prints had a hint of stringing of them but nothing crazy. After 3 or 4 prints I’m facing a stringing / drooling problem and the filament not adhering to the bed properly. I’ve changed the nozzle as well, run a calibration test, did a factory reset, formatted the SD card but nothing helps. It’s very frustrating to say the least, I’ve only used it for 2 months from new. I’ve done about 30 successful prints in that time.

This is driving me mad, this is going to have to go back. I have to use tweezers to pick off the filament before it prints, it’s that bad, I’ve used this filament many times before, tried Orca Slicer manual setups and the like. It also fails to print every time now. It looks like it not adhering initially and stringing every time, without fail, no matter how much i clean it with soapy water and isopropanol. Truly dreadful, was fine for the first 30 prints but useless and a massive time waster now. I’ve replaced the nozzle head as well.

When my car fails to run, my first thought is, “Do I have gas?”

If my 3D print fails, my first thought is, “Is my filament dry?”

The word “dry” has not appeared anywhere in this topic.

With all the available variables for a FDM print there are many more ways to get a print wrong than there are to get them all right. A clean plate and dry, calibrated filament are probably the three most basic requirements.

Yep I’m aware of these things, thanks for the analogy, most helpful. All the things you have mentioned have been done already, in so far as I’m now pretty much on top of the problem, but, it needs a hell of a lot of monitoring. That’s not a problem as I’m learning a fair amount in the process and at least it’s printing most of the time now.
