Printhead cover mod to hold it out of the way during maintenance

I have been thinking about a way to hold the print head cover out of the way when I need to take it off for some kind of maintenance. In various instructions and videos they just let it hang by the wires and that bothers me.

My first thought was that BBL should have somehow added a spot where the cover magnet could attach to hold the cover when it is off. I am in the process of deciding how to implement some kind of a solution using a magnet to hold it out of the way. I am thinking that it would be best if it was in a place where it would not get damaged if the printer ran a home command, just in case.

Agree. I’m hoping someone in our 3D printing community can create just the item we need.

Hi,
What maintenance are you doing that requires the printed to be turned on? I just hang it over the carbon rods to have both hands free and I don’t see the issue with it. The cover is very lightweight and I can hang it in a way that doesn’t stretch that cables.
If you insist on being able to home the printer while the cover is attached to somewhere I just see an even larger margin for error where the cables connecting to the lid could be ripped off.

I was not saying I would home the printer. I was just using that as an example of why I was thinking of holding it in a place where it would not get ruined if one of the axes was moved. For example, today when changing the nozzle, as I was pushing to remove the screw the carriage moved back along the y axis. Things sometimes happen.

Just unplug it. It won’t do any damage if the printer is on and you unplug it, or is switched on with it off.

maybe magnetic wire connectors like a laptop charging cord for the fan and light then it all would be removable without unplugging anything.

Now that is advanced thinking!
