HI, maybe I am missing something.
But when I have my AMS loaded with PLA, I cannot set my object to print to ABS.
I can set my object with any filament in the AMS.
But I cannot set it to the filament on the external spool.
since the object is now set to PLA it refuses to print on the engineering plate.
to work around this, I put an ABS spool in the AMS and select that and then print from the external spool.
I assume there must be a way to select the external spool as a 5th spool or so.
When you want to print, just uncheck use AMS on the screen where you confirm and send the print and if I remember right you’ll be prompted to manually feed from the external spool.
The latest firmware has an updated filament screen where you can set the external spool filament type but you should still uncheck use AMS when printing from external spool
That is correct,
But my problem is before that, it is on the prepare page, it won’t even slice when PLA selected with the engineering plate.
When I do a sinq in the filament tab it will only show the filaments in the AMS.
To get PLA to print on the engineering plate, just go into your filament settings and set the engineering plate temps for whatever material you’re using and set a temperature for the engineering plate. For reference, you can set the temp to 1° and it’ll work fine. Just won’t heat the plate up.
That is also correct, but for printing ABS you need high temps.
Since the filament is set to PLA all the temps are for PLA (obvious) and not for ABS.
The work around i use now is put 1 spool of ABS in the AMS and select that one, so all temps are ok, and it will slice to the engineering plate as well, and then I uncheck the AMS.
That works but is a work around.
For bambuLab Studio:
It would be nice and practicle if the external spool would be in the “prepare” menu next to the 4 spools from the AMS, it would be logical if it is done with the “sinq” command . Just the same as is done with the AMS spools.
In that case there is also no need to chose AMS enabled in the pop up “sent print Job”
Maybe I be missing something, but when you talk about the ‘prepare’ screen - is it this menu you refer to:
If yes, it doesn’t need to be in sync with the AMS. You can set those up as you wish - including ‘custom’ filament settings (like you see on my screenshot). Then you can assign the filament you want to print with to the object. After slicing, on the screen for sending the file to the printer deselect the checkboxes for AMS and it will use the external spool.
Edit: I have only 1 AMS, but as you can see on my screenshot I have loaded common used filaments in the prepare section (and there are 5 even if one AMS can only load 4)
Thanks Wylaryzel for your responce, that is the way to go for now.
The only thing is that if I synq the AMS, this 5th spool will be deleted, so I have to add it again.
