Hello guys,
I’ve been using ASA for the fist time today. Filament is dry, 20% or less in the AMS 2 Pro.
I’ve been able to make the generic profile work for me, 110°c bed and internal chamber to 55°c passively, 260°c nozzle. My benchy is essentially perfect.
However I have had issues printing large pieces. It doesn’t warp, but I have something strange happening at rounded edges as per the photos
It is only happening at the rounded edge. Else my print is quite solid even though it feels like some tiny filament on the plate after it finishes, I think they come from the rounded edge too.
Does any one have a tip on this ? I lowered printing speeds way down (50mm/s) to have a good part that looks clean but this issue doesn’t seem to go away.
I can of course share any details you’d need to analyze it.

Is it even on both sides? A fan deflector is a good idea for higher temp filaments.
Brims for ASA is always a good idea too (or brim ears)
The engineering plate is also a good idea. The hold is much stronger than the gold pei.
It’s tough to see in your pictures but the “round” edges are probably at an overhang that is starting to be an issue. There is less air moving around on a ASA print than an say a PLA print so overhangs don’t cool as as fast. Also you might try lowering your bed temp a little as I find 110 seems to also cause issues like this as it keeps the part hotter. You have to find a happy medium between too hot and parts coming off the bed.
I have the aux fan off. I have zero issues with adhesion it’s only the few middle layers that are issues

Thank you for your input. Too high of an overhang is also an hypothesis but it worked well with PLA as is so maybe there’s some parameter I should adjust like fan on at a certain layer height ?

Sharing your 3mf is a great way to troubleshoot if you would like us to look at it.
Also, on the P2S, the right aux fan is never truely “ off”. It always circulates a little bit of air because it is part of the heating/cooling system.
Thank you for your help, I noticed now that even PLA parts with small contact area to the plate are warping off my plate even at 65°c. I don’t think it used to be the case, my plate is clean. I’m now heavily suspecting foul play on the auxiliary fan side. As you said it’s never fully off and it’s blowing air at the part, even though it’s hot-ish (my enclosure stays at 50°c passively) it will still cool down my part as it’s way below the print plate temp. I will print the 45° air deflector and come back to the part, to see if it changes anything. It can’t hurt in any case… I’ll try to print it in ASA using a raft at 0.16mm layer height, I’ll keep you posted if it solves anything.
Maybe you ask yourself why, since it doesn’t seem directly related, but I suspect I have to use very high plate temperature to compensate for that, (the aux fan issue) I suppose that if I can get away with lower temps to the same effect, my overhangs will look cleaner and could use some part cooling fan to help without dramatic warping.
