Problem not covered in the troubleshooting guide

Just curious if anyone else has seen this. Insert a filament in the #1 slot. LED is white. Select the slot in Bambu Studio and hit load. Motor on #1 RETRACTS the filament and continues to run in that direction for about 30 seconds. Repeats running in the retraction direction for about 30 seconds a second time. It then faults out and goes to a steady red LED.

If I power it down, put a spool in slot 2 with nothing in slot 1 and tell it to load slot 2, the exact same thing happens with slot 1 even though there is no filament in it. Then it tells me it can’t retract the non existing filament in slot 1.

Pathway is clear from the back of the hub to the printhead. Can use an external filament with no issue.

Will do all the electrical checks on the cables later and disassemble everything if I have to. But, I was wondering if anyone else had see a similar problem?

Yeah, unfortunately it’s happened to me many times. More than likely it’s a piece of broken filament inside the AMS that’s tripping the sensor. Unplug the cable and ptfe from the back, take the two screws out that are holding the tray in place. Then carefully unplug the two wires underneath. Now you can take the bottom tray completely out and unhook the ptfe from the slot it keeps trying to unload… you should see a piece of filament at that point.

Yep! Same thing happened to me and did the same as @PrinterMcgee to fix the problem.

Would compressed air blow out the broken filament?

You could but I think I would go the “piano” wire method like @RocketSled has suggested in the past.

Thanks for the tips!!! Didn’t want to wait for wire, so took it apart, found the broken filament piece (my fault, older, not vacuum packed filament I hadn’t dried before using).

Pretty darn easy to do, but I can see where the wire would make it much easier.
