Problems printing a RC plane

Hello - I have a strange issue. I’m trying to print a RC plane I’ve purchased from PlanePrint.com. Its the Paper Airplane. When I bring in the STL file for the parts any pocket for the tabs that are used to connect the parts the pockets all are there in the model. However, when I slice it they vanish when they are in a vertical orientation (parallel or near parallel to the build plate). To confirm they are in the STL I CUT the model which is 200 tall at 197 and there really is a pocket there. But when I slice the CUT parts they vanish again.

Take a look at the pictures I’ve attached. I tried to capture all the relevant info.

I have tried to vary many settings in an attempt to find something that makes a change. No luck. I’m open to all suggestions.

Did you check Detect Thin Walls…??

Are you using a 0.6mm nozzle setting instead of 0.4mm?

Nope - standard .4mm nozzle

Nope - detect thin walls is unchecked

Then check it.

No change. Its still not making the slot.

Just out of curiosity, how wide are the walls next to the slots and how wide is the slot? If it does not fit well with the wall thickness, maybe the “Archne” Wall generator in the Quality settings can help?

Just to document how I fixed my issue for those who look afterward…

I had Reme from PlanePrint.com send me pictures of his process settings and I changed my profile to match his. Nothing changed until I got to:

Under “Other”, under “Special Mode”, there is an option called “Slicing Mode”. The options are “Regular”, “Even-Odd” (for 3DLabPrint airplanes which doesn’t tell me what it does), and “Close Holes” which obviously closes all holes in the model.

I somehow changed from “Regular” to “Close Holes”. It closed the pockets on the top and bottom surfaces but not on the sides. I found it interesting that it also removed the internal pocket structures and flowed the gyroid sparse infill up to the top and bottom surfaces.

I changed this back to “Regular” and everything worked great. Thanks all for the commentary.

Are you using a regular PLA or LW PLA?

I used LW PLA for this. I made each opposing component either red of yellow and it’s a nice-looking plane in its current state. For the record, I live in Michigan, USA and the weather turned cold before I flew it. so I have no idea how it flies - yet.
