Product Request: Bambu Bus Ethernet adapter

I use a A1 in a workplace where Ethernet is preferred to Wi-Fi for security and performance.
Additionally I have not been able to get more than 140 Mbps out of the A1, even with a WiFi router about 40cm from it.

The A1 and A1 mini have two Bambu Bus (BB) ports, with only one being used for the AMS Lite.
It would be a useful feature and a value add to have Ethernet capability through the 2nd Bambu Bus.

I imagine this would be through a Bambu Bus to RJ-45 Ethernet adapter and a firmware update to support it.

Why do you need such an internet speed for a 3D printer?

Faster timelapse downloading in addition to the stability.

It would be incredibly slow, like a 100K to a megabit at most.

Why 1 megabit at most?

The A1 and A1 mini use the Espressif ESP32 for WiFi.
Which is limited to 150Mbps.

Unless the Bambu Bus port has a limit, I imagine that the bandwidth limit would be similur or greater than the WiFi.

I would think those ports would be very low data rate. The connection to the AMS doesn’t require much bandwidth.

Bambulab is not going to open the firmware any time soon. That is a non-starter, sorry to say.

It is a hardware-software integrated system. That is what makes it work so well, but also frustrating. It is also the key to their entire business model. The CEO has said that when the current printers come to the end of their support life, they might offer the firmware. I think it’s pretty clear. That means there is no chance of them doing so sooner.

The limitation is the bus speed.

The bambu-bus is a proprietary protocol, based on UART through a RS485 bus
The UART is clocked at 1228800bps with 1 even parity bit and 1 stop bit

1228800bps ~ 1.2 mbps max.

For the security concern wouldn’t a vpn or dedicated access point work?

Hi, I am looking for a Ethernet solution for the P1S model. At my work we need to connect with a LAN cable. for now we are using a hotspot. I am also not able to use the SD card, as we are not allowed to use external storage hardware. Is there a solution for an upgrade to a ethernet module is this model?

Welcome to the forum.

There is not. For your situation the only Bambu printer with onboard ethernet is the X1E. You might be better off looking at a Prusa Core One.

I think an ethernet port is still much required from a printer, they all use 2.4 Ghz and that bandwith is already a mess with so many devices using that band. In a print farm I’d prefer ethernet every single time for the added stability

How do you want to print without the SD card?
That’s where all the print files go, no matter whether you use the cloud or LAN only mode.
