Prusament galaxy black filament (PLA)

Hello everyone, I am new to 3D print and got my X1 carbon this week.
Now I got a new spool of Prusament Galaxy Black gifted.

Someone on reddit said it will clogg the nozzle. Is that true?
Someone here has experience with it and printed the galaxy filament already?

Thanks!

I don’t print with this pla filament but it is not recommended to use a 0.2 mm nozzle for printing as clogging may occur with filaments that have sparkle or custom fillers added.

.4 Nozzle @ 220c - 230c should work fine you can do a temp tower test also.

Clogs are not the end of the world but before you start testing other filaments get all your 3D printed tools done unless you have another printer.

Just one sample tool below and search for your Bambu tools on printables

Bambu Lab X1C Clog Pusher

Welcome to the 3D world :grinning:

I am using PLA Galaxy Black from Prusa on my P1P. Since yesterday I can tell you that it does not only print well on the standard 0.4 nozzle but also on the hardened steel 0.4 nozzle. No issues at all after one almost complete full roll.

Great, thanks a lot guys! Just did my first print with it. Just for the record i am using the Textured PEI plate, which works perfect. I tried the hot and cool plate, too but had some issues with the first layer.

Get a Wham Bam plate if you want a smooth finish with PLA without glue.

I have been having lots of clogging, sticking and printing with the Prusament Galaxy Silver.

I find that the the filament gets easily damaged in the extruder and the extruder motor does not have sufficient torque to pull it through causing lots of jamming. It also gets stuck in the hot end too.

Finally compared to the bambu PLA it has so many first layer issues.

I would love any thoughts and suggestions.

I have played around with the bed temperature, cooling, speed and still cannot get consistent printing performance and have to do a nozzle cleaning once every other print.

i only print PRUSAMENT PLA in any color and had never ever any problems. use the Textured PEI Plate at 55°C and 215°C Nozzle temp

Got exactly the same issues. I bought 5kg and i think it was a big misteake. Bambu PLA works perfect each time ( but is tangled as hell) but with Prusament i got contant problems.

Just plugged a .4 nozzle on A1 couldn’t unplug threw it away. I have 2 rolls Galaxy Black left but with no spare nozzle I don’t think I will run this stuff. metal particles are really noticeable on outside of filament, I think they are problematic .

Should be no problem printing it with an A1. I’ve gone through nearly a full roll of Prusament galaxy black and it hasn’t clogged once on my P1S/P. I do use a hardened nozzle and gears which I know the A1 doesn’t have. Prusament in PLA, PETG and ASA is my go to filament when I want a guaranteed good quality finish. BBL filament is consistently trash for me, I honestly get better results from any no name filament from AliExpress. The only advantage of the BBL filament I can see is the AMS support.

I’d like to circle back to the Prusa galaxy black conversation here. @RMB (or any others), do you know if the Prusa galaxy black has metallic flakes in it? I’m not overprotective about printing with metallic flakes, but I do like to try and account for the possible wear and tear on the nozzles from that or the CF. My second question is do you notice any difference in between layers as far as strength? In other words, does it seem to act like regular PLA, PLA-CF, or maybe even PETG? Thanks for your feedback in advance!

It has glitter in it, not metallic flakes.
