PSA: Older version of Handy is now bricked 🪦

Quick PSA for everyone. Bambu just bricked older versions of the handy app. I was using an old iPhone 6 as a dedicated controller for my P1s. A few days ago I could no longer set the AMS filament so I tried deleting it and signing back in and its blocked completely!

If you have an older version of handy DO NO SIGN OUT OR DELETE IT as you wont be able to sign in again.

I found a workaround for older Handy app but I dont want to post it publicly as Bambu will probably patch it. Just dont log out and you should be good.

Very helpful to… who? Huh

People who use older iPhones as a dedicated controller for the P1S, Im not the only one. Its a better alternative than Panda Touch as it has many more functions.

My point is, why mention this if you aren’t prepared to offer any guidance?

Oh i just assumed people would understand to DM me for the solution if they needed it. I thought that went without saying but I guess i should have actually said it, always glad to help any members. Im sure Bambu will patch it eventually but I would like to extend that time by as much as possible by not posting it.

Oh! Ha. Duh. Sorry. 25c

I still dont understand why people buy a Panda Touch when an iPhone can do so much more and most of us have an older one sitting in a drawer. I think it looks pretty sleek in a nice bambu mount. And as a bonus when bambu will update their firmware it wont be locked out… unless its a very old one like mine! :joy:

Because a Panda touch looks much cleaner and is faster. I don’t get why you wouldn’t just use the phone you carry around with you anyway.

When im at home my phone is not being carried around but in my bedroom. I have a mac desktop and laptop so I can do everything from those devices (email, messages, phone calls etc). The one beside bambu is always there ready to be used.

I get the Panda touch looking more like an X1 interface wise, but it lacks some functionality that is available in the Handy app.

At the end of the day its nice that we have choices.

Wondering if I should try an older Handy version on my vintage Nexus 7…
Runs a custom Android 11 and does not complain like most modern devices when installing old apps.
Never thought about popping that onto my printer…

Works great, you can set custom filaments, reprint jobs or only parts of them, skip items etc. Way more functionality than Panda. I actually hung it on the printer after i moved it to a lower table, USB port inside the printer keeps it charged and the cable snakes though that useless hole. Just dont make the mistake I did initially, I kept the screen on 100% of the time at full brightness and it made the battery swell up, now i have it time out after 5 min.

I’m loving the Panda Touch because it’s easier to use with my fat fingers and it works locally (without internet connection). I have the handy app on an old iPhone SE too, so I can compare it. Especially the printer handling for changing nozzle and manually filament (un)load is easier for me using the Panda Touch. As you say:

I’m waiting for a real iPad App, that takes advantage of the bigger Screen and works in Landscape mode.

Yes changing nozzles sizes can sometimes glitch and can be a bit slow, but I dont do that often enough for it to bother me. I still prefer the handy over the P1s display and horrible buttons, you press down and it registered as right or left etc. Loading is pretty straight forward, I print a lot of TPU so I disconnect my AMS and load manually often. Otherwise I have not had any problems with speed, everything is pretty responsive. iPad app would be nice, could stick an iPad mini on there and have all the functions on one screen.

Is that an Apple thing or just me using a custom Rom on my old Android tablet?
I can use the same app for the mobile phone on the tablet.
Apple should be smart enough to just scale according to the DPI of the display.
Unless course Bambu went the cheap route and did not use scalable buttons and texts in their IOS app…

They did not port the app so it looks the same as on iPhone but bigger. A proper iPadOS app would have more on the screen and different layout etc.

thanks for sharing

I purchased the panda touch and a bit disappointed in the number of errors I get. As well the other day discovered that I can not skip or remove pieces of a multi print.
So I mine as well just connected a old phone or table to the P1S at least it would have all the functions

Yes it has full functionality and you get more features as bambu upgrades the app, not less functionality as printer firmware is upgraded and Panda functionality is deprecated!

Is the holder available onlinesomewhere please?

I remixed it as the one available was pointing the phone upward for people that have the printer down low. I can post my remix if yours is eye level like mine.
