It seems the PTFE tube grinds down on the cable chain and even on the glass cover plate (not easy to take a picture of unfortunately).
Is this to be expected?

The PTFE tube will in time wear, either externally by rubbing against things or internally when using abrasive filaments. It’s good to monitor while performing machine maintenance and replace when necessary.
Here is the link to the replacements.
I noticed the same when I saw small white particles on the top area of my printer.
I was working on something at the time and didn’t want to print off the new PTFE guide, so I just put some zip ties on the tube, tight enough to hold onto the flat area but not tight enough to constrict the tube at all.
Seems to be slowly wearing through the zip tie now, but they are a lot easier to replace than the whole tube!
I just had this same issue and had the PTFE split down the side and spew filament. As noted by JonRaymond, I should have noticed this during maintenance, but I missed the issue. It was super simple to replace the tubing. I’ll just do a better job going forward of checking it, so I don’t have a problem mid-print.
