I have a model that has no flat bottom. So I want to create a bottom. But I can’t seem to slide the object on top of the rectangular cube I added. The z-axis does not seem to work, to raise it and then slide it on top of the cube.
You need to select both parts, right click and “Merge” them. This will combine them into an assembly and allow you to move the part in 3d space as long as the other part stays on the bed.
Thank you for including the .3mf, unfortunately the forum is broken and it can’t be downloaded otherwise I would have demonstrated it with your part.
Your question stated you wished to create a bottom to an existing model.
Two people have shown you how to merge the two objects so you can place one on top of the other.
Why are you now asking how to split them?
If one object is the top part and the new object is the base, merging them allows you to place one on top of the other. Why do you wish to break them up if they are doing as you requested?
We cannot view your 3MF file because there is an issue with the forum. Does this provide more information about your goal?
If so, please share it using a different service like WeTransfer or any other that doesn’t charge you or us to view the resulting file.
I merged them. Then what? I try to move 1, but because they are merged, they both move together. How do u do that? I asked about splitting to as that icon for slip to objets gets greyed out after something is done. It’s not clear what was done. If I am still not making sense, I will try to post it somewhere.
I am not finger pointing at any1. If there was some1, it was B.S. confuse people.
In my vocabulary,
Merge almost equals combine, like merge 2 branches of a code into one, even though 2 branches are in different code styles from different coders but for the same function.
Combine is like appending one file to another file.
Group is like putting 2 files in the same folder.
I see a confused user here, should it be “group” instead or “merge”?
Anyway, I hit reply button that doesn’t mean I quote your reply, Malc. I can only blame the forum for this.
The forum is annoying that hitting reply at the bottom or reply to the last message appears as the same thing.
It is also confusing.
The wording in Bambu Studio is unfortunate, the convention in software is group as merge usually means something else as you noted.
I don’t think it helps that most people don’t notice the difference between the global and the object view.
There are many things that just fail any obviousness test.
I admit I was being a little defensive, there are a few here trying to attack me for their amusement. I should have known better given it was you, you have always been decent.
This was confusing for me as well and ran into what I think is the same problem you are having.
Seems you got this far - select multiple objects by whatever method (ctrl click, shift drag a box around them), right click and select merge from the menu. This groups both items into an assembly and selects the entire assembly. Any actions you attempt will apply to this entire assembly, moving 1 part will movr all parts.
To enable you to stack them on each other you will need look in the left pane and make sure you are viewing Objects, not Global. You should see an assembly with the individual parts listed. Select just the part you want to move and choose Move (M) in the menu bar at the top. This will enable you to manipulate the Z axis position with it falling down to the level of the build plate.
Took me a while to figure this out, was stumped for ages as to why I could get things in the position I wanted and they just drop down after I moved them.
