I have had this problem before, and ended up downgrading on a previous firmware release. Before anyone asks, I recalibrated and power cycled after upgrading. Filament was dry.
Problem is after upgrading to the latest H2S firmware, first layer quality degraded tremendously. Where before my first layers were fairly smooth, after the upgrade, I am getting ridges, almost like the nozzle is too close. Downgraded to original and ran same file with all same settings, same filament, same build plate and the quality went back to normal.
Here is my procedure when I change firmware. It is what I have done on all my printers.
Power cycle printer
Install new FW
Power cycle again
Run full calibration, except for high temp as I don’t do high temp materials very often.
Power cycle again
I use Dawn dishwashing soap to clean plates.
Right now, I am experimenting with using actual Bambu filament rather than the Sunlu I was printing. I wonder if maybe I have a flow problem as I haven’t calibrated this specific filament yet. What concerns me is that, even though my before isn’t perfect, the post upgrade was so much worse.
I get this exact same result whenever the plate isn’t clean and sometimes I had to clean it with dish soap more than once. But it exactly looks like this.
Ok. If I factory restore, that will mean I have to recalculate all my K values for the filaments, right? I have about 15 different filaments I have those set at and really don’t want to have to recalibrate all of them.
Ok. I think I figured it out. The particular filament I was using was over extruding by quite a bit. It was Sunlu PLA+, which I hadn’t really calibrated yet. I think the FW upgrade just made the printer more sensitive to that over extrusion or something.
Anyway, I had to take the flow ratio all the way from .98 down to .9254. After that, I was getting good first layers.
Way I found it was I used a roll of Bambu PLA basic and set that on printer and in slicer. Test print came out almost perfect, so it told me it was something to do with the filament. I will need to run some more tests with other brands and make sure I have them dialed in correctly.
