This is how it should work, provided you have enabled auto refill.
Example: 1. Slots all different
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Red (selected for print)
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Bambu Green
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Blue (selected for print)
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Yellow (selected for print)
If red (slot 1) runs out during a print, the printer pauses and you must remove the empty spool and put a new spool in slot 1, resume the print.
The replacement spool does NOT need to match the previous spool that ran out, it can be a different colour other manufacturer.
Example: 2. Two identical slots
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Red (selected for print)
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Red
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Blue (selected for print)
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Yellow (selected for print)
If red (slot 1) runs out during a print, the printer automatically swaps to slot 2 without any intervention from you.
Example: 3. Two identical slots starting from slot 2
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Red
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Red (selected for print)
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Blue (selected for print)
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Yellow (selected for print)
If red (slot 2) runs out during a print, the printer automatically swaps to slot 1 without any intervention from you.
Example: 4. Mixed slots
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Red (selected for print)
- eSun PLA+ Red
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Blue (selected for print)
- Bambu Lab Basic PLA Yellow (selected for print)
If red (slot 1) runs out during a print, the printer pauses and you must remove the empty spool and put a new spool in slot 1, resume the print.
Slot 1 & 2 both hold Red PLA, but the manufacturer differs and no automatic matching will occur.
Example: 5. Mixed slots long print
- eSun PLA+ Red (selected for print)

If red (slot 1) runs out during a print, the printer swaps to slot 2 automatically, if slot 2 runs out, the printer swaps to slot 3 automatically, if slot 3 runs out, the printer swaps to slot 4 automatically, if slot 4 runs out, the printer pauses and you must remove the empty spool and put a new spool in slot 4, resume the print.
Example: 6. Mixed slots pretending not to be
- eSun PLA+ Red set as white (selected for print)
- eSun PLA+ Green set as white
- eSun PLA+ Blue set as white
- eSun PLA+ Yellow set as white
If red (slot 1) runs out during a print, the printer swaps to slot 2 automatically, if slot 2 runs out, the printer swaps to slot 3 automatically, if slot 3 runs out, the printer swaps to slot 4 automatically, if slot 4 runs out, the printer pauses and you must remove the empty spool and put a new spool in slot 4, resume the print.
