Questions about ABS toxicity

Hi, I have been printing with ABS on my H2D, and it smells really bad, which is expected according to the internet.

On Bambu Lab’s website, there is no mention of it being toxic, just that it smells bad. But according to a lot of Redditors it produces toxic fumes while printing?

I have been running an Air purifier at the same time as printing, but was wondering if this is actually really bad or people are panicking for no reason on Reddit?

Thanks.

No… It’s pretty bad “honestly”! Best and ideal is to vent the air out completely… Even if you can’t smell it(which you mentioned that you can), there’s a lot of things that you “don’t” want to inhale at all… Very, very serious about it being toxic.

You can use an inline extractor fan and filter, if you concerned about the smell and / or particles being released

a little expensive but probably worth it , meant for hydroponic smells

do I connect that to H2D or just put in the room?

How you connect it (flexible ducting fan filter) or position it (filter fan ducting) would depend on how it best fits your situation, its also app controlled ,i`d have mine postioned between the printers venting through a window, because even pla can give of a bad smell on the A series

I printed ABS yesterday. But i found the filters the H2D very good. I did not smell very much. You may add this:

But this is only for lower temp prints with PLA or PETG. You should use good ventilation of the room.

You may add an IKEA Uppatvind Air Purifier. This one has a hepa filter, an activated carbon filter can be added. Have a look at my link.

Thanks. I will print that upgrade. I’m running this ikea purifier: FÖRNUFTIG air purifier/additional gas filter, black - IKEA Finland

Thats the bigger one from IKEA.

Activated carbon filters (inline) ,better for venting

My printer is in my home office… Sound will be an issue

No, you can add a sound box (filter) to go with them also, plus a lot of todays inline fans boast about how quiet they are.
horses for courses or hobsons choice ?

True. No other viable choices.

But still yours to make

Wouldn’t this reduce the heat in the chamber significantly since it’s essentially creating a vacuum that is pulling the air from the chamber?

I wouldnt put it in the chamber and heat will escape anyway , which is probably where/how the smell comes from , it would just require the correct placement to attract the leakage , most inliners come with a speed controller .
