Only had my bambu for a week now and am a little confused about printer profiles and 3mf files. So far I have printed directly from Handy, downloaded a 3mf and printed from Bambu Studio, and made 3mf from scratch in BS.
-
If you upgrade your printer from stock you will no longer be able to use a standard profile and wlnt be able to print directly from bambu handy app? Such as custom e3d nozzle, etc
-
If i download a 3mf from makerworld, when it opens all the settings i see there are ones from profile poster, how can i discard all the changes just leaving the models, if i just want to use stock quality profile?
-
Similarly to above, if i change stuff like starting gcode in bambu studio, this will only reflect if i print using my custom printer profile using bambu studio right?
When using a downloaded 3mf, when I close it asks if I want to discard or save settings. I am assuming this means save the downloaded changes to your local quality profile?
Does no one know the answers to these questions?
So nice to see that I am NOT alone with this Bambu confusion…
One of the first things I did when I got frustrate was to set the machine up for local LAN use only.
I make most models myself so no need for using the cloud.
Sometimes though it is easier to use a model someone made rather than to re-invent the wheel.
Every now and then I manually do a backup of the profiles I have - just in case and to prevent issues when updating.
The handling of 3mf files is intentionally made very easy - TOO easy.
The goal was, or still is, that any user can just download the file and print it without having to worry.
Too bad if your printer uses different filament or has a different setup…
The only real way to make 3mf files work to YOUR specs is to revert back to your settings.
Delete the filaments and add the ones you use.
Load the presets you have if the ones from the 3mf file make little to no sense or waste too much filament.
So unless custom supports were included the whole thing is pretty much useless for normal users.
On a company scale it does make sense, same if you print the same things a lot to sell them.
But even then ONLY if you still use the same filament, did not do any tweaking and such.
I don’t use the mobile app - Bambu refuses to support for it if you go LAN only.
But it should still apply the same way, delete the unwanted filaments, then replace the print configuration with your own.
You can avoid all this by either using a provided STL, preferably STEP file or simply by checking other 3D sites for models that come with usable files.
I think I might have found answers to your question with those 3mf files.
Load one and enjoy seeing all the wrong settings for your machine.
DISCARD to have anything changed when you open the file.
Now you can remove the unwanted filament(s), replace it with your own and matching profile.
Same for the print profile you want to use.
Once that is all done you can save it to keep YOUR settings.
Not ideal but I hope it still helps.
