doing a thin object. when doing with no raft, it sometimes does not stick to the plate. so i added raft, 2 layers, no clearance. but lookint at the slicing, the first layer of the object, when having raft (it is layer 3 when having raft), has less fill than when there is NO raft (and it is layer 1).
for raft, i have zero clearance between support and object. i’d expect the FIRST layer that contacts the raft to be LAYER ONE of object, and should be solid. I even changed surface layers bottom to be 5 instead of 3,but still no change. any feedback appreciated, thanks
I haven’t had much success with Bambu Studio (BS) and raft, they always tend to weld themselves to the model.
Try a brim instead.
In an ideal world models require a decent amount of surface to build-plate ratio to stick.
Depending on what you are printing, using tree support could assist. Without any pictures, that one is a guess.
You can also slow down the print for the first few layers and if you are using PLA, I have found turning off the fan for the first few layers helps things stick.
thnks. but brim not as beneficial.
the raft settings i use have first layer as PLA, then the support layer (layer 2) is PETG) and then 3rd layer (first layer of object) becomes PLA again.
and, that combination works well, raft easily removed from the objects.
and for small parts, this does work (I was making my own 2-layer object to insert under the main object, and changing filament automatically, before revisiting the RAFT settngs). but the raft settings, with zero clearance, are doing OK right now.
ok,RED arrow - part that had final surface printed at about layer 297
BLUE/GREEN arrow - a part that has that surface on the build plate - actually on the RAFT, so this was layer 3, but actually layer 1 of the object. it should have had a flat surface, like the red-arrow part.
this matches the concerns i had above, with the actual bambu slicer impression of how it would get printed.
HOW to get the layer 3 (first layer of object) to print solid, like layer 297 final layer?
Possible solution . I adjusted the INTERNAL SOLID INFILL to smaller amount (0.3 mm). THAT IMPROVED the slicer view of the object. I am printing a test as i type, to see if that makes a difference in the appearance of the first layer of object (layer 3 on print).
OK, actual print, it did improve. see surface, finer that the other orange print above. so the solid infill does help.
ISSUES (not sure if solvable). since this first layer of object is resting on other filament, it does not get as polished as when it would print directly on the print bed, so i’m not sure if it can be gotten better than this. and i don’t think there is a way to IRON a specific layer (first layer of object print) to make it smoother. so this may be a trade-off of adhesion and ease of print, versus appearance. BUT, at least i believe these settings help to optmize the actual output
and hopefully this helps others who may use a raft, and support material (such as PETG for support of PLA), and the settings that help this.
