Hi there guys just got a quick one. I’ve been using the PETGHF filament and it works really well.
I dry it for about 12 hours at 65°C in a filament dryer before use and it works perfectly.
My question is - if humidity levels are nominal and the desiccants are doing their job in the AMS and I leave the PETG roll in my AMS - After how long would you let it sit before drying it again?
I know this would depend on humidity etc. but I just would like a best practice if there’s someone out there who has done something similar.
Chuck humidity sensor in the AMS if you want to have concrete number. I dry my filament not based on numbers but on print problems, eg: stringing shows up? Time to dry it!
It will depend on humidity so it’s hard to say. It will last longer at an AMS humidity of “1” than “3”. Where do you keep AMS humidity?
With well-dried spools your AMS should pretty well stay at “1”. I have PETG HF in mine that has been in it about a month and last time used (about a week ago) was fine.
But there’s no way to give hard answers since much depends on how well you dry, how often you change out spools to introduce more ambient humidity, etc. Best to just watch for moisture effects to start creeping in and make a note of how long the spool was in the AMS. And a lot will depend on how you store filament for the time it’s out of the AMS.
