Real temperature doesn't match AMS reading

I’ve noticed a temperature discrepancy between my AMS 2 Pro temperature reading and the real temperature.

While the printer (H2D) reports the AMS temperature at 60 °C, the actual internal temperature stays around the low 40s.

Has anyone else experienced this?

For context: I have only one AMS 2 Pro connected, and the printer wasn’t running any prints during the drying process.

kind of expected. Guess the temp is only measured at the blowing side?

Support said it was a defect. They sent a new main board. I’m waiting to replace and see how it performs. That being said, I’d say that the expected behavior is to have the interior of the AMS at the temperature it’s programmed for after its running for a while

I’m also wondering how things went, I might be running into the same problem (AMS 2 Pro says it’s at 65C, in-unit thermometer says it’s at 36C). Touching the outside of the unit lines up a lot more with the 36C measurement than the 65C.

Hey! Sorry the delay. It did improve meaningfully, but the AMS still doesnt reach the said temps. Especially when comparing with other dryers in the MkT (e.g., the ones from the arch nemesis), there’s a clear difference…

Try measuring with a thermocouple/probe instead of IR as a doublecheck. Emissivity is a real thing and even the highest quality IR guns need calibration and mode selections to work around the phenomena. Clear acrylic [which you appear to be pointing at] has a similar emissivity to human skin, so you can do a calibration check on yourself!

Fully agreed. The second time (post board changing) I measured with a thermocouple, at the occasion I got a ~6-8 C difference vs. set temperature, which is far better than the huge delta I had before.
That being said, before replacing (when I made this post) I had only tested with the IR Gun + thermometers you see in the post photos (those that comes w/ hygrometers and an air quality sensor)

Aside from IR, I’ve put normal thermometer into AMS2 but the temp reading was still below 65 degrees. Both IR and regular measured around 50-52C after an hour of drying turned on. I highly doubt that any filament can be truly dried in AMS2 :thinking:The humidity reading on my hygrometer inside AMS barely moved 4-5% down after 8 hours of drying in allegedly max temperature.

Unfortunately, your readings are very close to mine after replacing the board…
I see the AMS2 as a very weak dryer which does work for non-engineering filaments but only if used over looong hours (which is unrealistic given we cant dry and print at the same time). My final solution to this problem was getting a Creality Spacepi X4 (which comes with its own set of issues, but at least actually reaches the temps they say and dries very well)
