As my business only releases tailored designs strictly to MW aside from every day business operations. From December to now I’ve gained $160 (4) in gift card redemptions.
I’ll state that I particularly strive in functional model designs that require extensive prototyping before uploading. I don’t reverse engineer, more so I tackle a solution which improves or generates better stability and efficiency in use. To me the most intricate, time consuming, and complex craft is “3D sculpting”. anything with fine details like pores, eyes, those articulating dragons. That can’t be ez so I understand the results those designers get with those uploads.
- Basically I’m saying this boost system will benefit the same designers that already generate hundreds of downloads/day for non complex models that require a small dedicated amount of time to get done. I’ll receive hate for this I understand but I honestly could model pretty much a vast majority of the top models (besides articulated figures). I’m not being cocky either and I’ll state my career background to support it which I’ve been doing for 10 years this year now… I got to this point by learning from some great folks that passed a dying trade I don’t go copying people therefore I don’t showcase my talent plus I’m not on youtube and have no plans on doing so especially with the amount of tech reviewers there now solely based on 3D printing even…
There’s going to be a vast majority of users that won’t even use these tokens or remember to use them but the people that will are going to be solely rewarding the designers already at the top and have been at the top… It’s another system rewarding designers being heavily rewarded already while the blue collar mediocre designer (me apparently) is getting held back on point rewards even more so than before.
All I can say is I want to TRY so dang hard, and if I could sit down for longer than the roughly 2 hours I’m only able to do everyday currently. I’d like to think I’d be compensated “rewarded” adequately enough that I’d be encouraged to continue and go further with designs like introducing mechanisms, and mechanical models and such.
When I finished my last spontaneous model that’s received like 15 downloads, I wasn’t thinking I’d become anything special it was just a cool print for MW. But I’ve always wanted to design a full blown replica of the Seattle Ferris Wheel, when I seen the Maker’s supply release I instantly created a list of everything I’d need to make it finally happen. Now I just don’t even see the drive to do so because it’s at least going to require some knowledge with wiring for people, plus additional cost and time to get the hardware required.
To all the user base and to fellow designers that and have been talented at what they enjoy doing I’m not trying to be the complainer everyday (you’ll notice protospyre around social media often) that’s because I care, I want to become better and better and learn new methods of designs and that’s it. I’m passionate about what it is I do.
So ending to this long rant is @MakerWorld, I don’t agree with the approach you’ve implemented to solve compensating designers that grind on complex, detailed, and intricately planned assemblies.
** I want to continue with MakerWorld designs, but I feel the competition of having to cater models to specific “popular” categories is what limits my reward. I apologize for not being a more creative designer.
I’ll sit down with my team thursday and basically see what I could be doing better…
Happy Printing guys/girls. I’ll genuinely be rewarding the designers I clearly see putting in extreme efforts trying to be the best they can be. Never forget where you start, it’s all we have to reflect on.
