Respooler that isn't terrible?

Has anyone found a respooler that isn’t objectively terrible?

I’ve printed a couple from maker world and they either end up like 4 feet long, which is less than ideal for living in a small apartment. In my experience the isn’t great at adapting to spools of different widths causing the filament to build up on one side of the spool and causing more issues than just trying to print on a cardboard spool in the ams 2 pro.

I’m not ruling out user error because I specialize is being a part time moron, but if you look at vspooler reviews, once you get past the fanboys, there are actually a lot of negatives.

So again, anyone know of a compact-ish respooler that actually respools evenly?

Pretty subjective question, I printed this one although not the split-base version. It works OK - definitely needs some lube, and it’s 33cm x 20 - can only get so small when it has spools attached!

Haven’t done a ton of respooling personally, but this one, once you figure it out, has worked well enough for me so far.

I printed in ABS for all pieces, and also have lubricated the axles and gears.

Would definitely not recommend printing in PLA…

So the works ok part is based on the fact it needs lube (don’t we all, if you know what I mean), or because it respools filament in a less than neat orderly kinda way?

The need for lube was what differentiated this respooler from the “pastamatic” I printed for my other home. That one runs fine without, but as you point out it’s rather large. The one I recommended is more compact, I was just mentioning that it was a little difficult to use until I put some oil on the spindles.

Here’s a spool of PLA that I respooled two nights ago because I accidentally dropped the original and broke the spool when it was essentially unused.

Keep in mind that it helps to respool twice in order to relieve stress on the filament.

The respooler I posted has the option to hook it up to a handheld drill to get it to move faster, but I’ve so far found that the hand crank is sufficient.

I still use one of these - takes up hardly any space. Works best with an output spool holder with a small bit of PTFE

I use one I designed specifically for Bambu Lab spools. It works for my.

Mine has 3 positions for the PTFE tube to make adjustments on where the filament accumulates but is primarily designed for Bambu spools: PASTA lite Receiver - a Pastamatic Remix - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld
