Retraction yes or no.. i don't understand

Hi All,

I have never printed anything until about a week ago… so no experience at all. however this printer the P1S is so good I haven’t had to learn much either. I am confused about retraction setting and defaults in the Bambu slicer. I have read and read that retraction is super important so I thought I would look at what the Generic PLA setting are in the slicer. I still don’t understand what i am looking at… I drop a model in the slicer and hit slice plate and I get a neat pop up that looks like the attached picture. am I supposed to click on the retract or just leave it alone.

just to be clear, I haven’t changed anything in the Generic PLA presets and its worked fine every time. the longest print I have done is about 4 hours and it came out super clean. right now I’m using elegoo filament rapid pla and had 0 problems. just want to understand what i am “supposed to be doing”

thanks

Welcome to the forum!

I wouldn’t worry about messing with retraction unless you are experiencing stringing problems. Bambu has it pretty dialed in on their profiles.

The screen you refer too is only an graphical overview of what the slicer came up with. You can select what you want to see by checking or unchecking the green mark, but it will have no effect on retration settings.

If you want to change retraction settings you need to do that before slicing. But I would just use standard BBL settings since they usually work great.

My advice is to not change any settings until you find there is a real need to do so. So what I mean: at some point a print wil fail or not look like you want and than you start doing reseach on what might fix the problem and than you can consider changing settings.

Happy printing!
Cheers.
