Retries on "Failed to extract filament from extruder"?

Hi Folks,

As with many, I see this error message often – right now about once an hour or so across my two printers (X1C & P1S) and 3 AMS units.

I’ve discovered I can just hit “retry” and it will recover by itself, 9 times out of 10. I’ve examined the GCode and configs for Studio and Handy. There doesn’t seem a way to make it do one more try for this error.

(The 10th time is generally some sort of AMS logic error where the rollers don’t spin quite as fast as the extruder is pulling. That’s a function of third party filament and the AMS not knowing how much has been used – a one way ratchet on the filament feeders could fix this, but that requires engineering changes.)

Can retries be made configurable?

For the record, I’ve done regular maintenance and swapped the PTFE as it wears. I’ve also reduced the frequency of errors by going to 3mm ID PTFE (which wears faster). I’ve also tried most of the fixes that people have posted that attempt to reduce friction. It’s probably time to disassemble and clean the extruder again, but nothing completely eliminates this error.
