Reuploads for contests

I keep seeing a trend where people will re upload old models so they can get entered into the contest. How can makerworld combat this?

One option I think would help is adding a category within the reporting to say " Old model reuploaded for contest entry". At least this way when we see them we can let makerworld staff aware of it and they can disqualify the entry.

Right now there is one that I saw earlier today, The Flexi Rexi with a heart. Its labeled as “FlexiDino Print in Place T-Rex for Valentine’s Day - Makerworld Contest” created by LabLab. If you go to his profile there is the same exact upload just with a different face picture and it was uploaded on 01/09/24.He re uploaded that same model on 01/22/24 to gain entry into the contest.

This model is currently number 5 in downloads. I don’t care if it is popular and does get downloads, as long as the re upload isn’t overlooked and takes one of the prizes that someone else who followed the rules deserves.

We need a way of reporting these within the contest page.

Hopefully, MW will review this before awarding the prizes.

Or allow us to use older models in contest…we have work hard for them too .

Report it. Last year for testing purposes i uploaded one of my models again and it got taken down for the exact reason. Double upload.

Like these two. One in the contest, one published before the contest…

@Mimi_home_decoration I believe the reason they don’t allow this is because announcing a contest a few weeks early and only allowing entries after the opening date forces new content. Imagine if they let us use old models, then every contest would just be the same old stuff and maybe a few new ones. It would just devalue the whole point of having contests in the first place, getting new models to the platform.

I’d be all for having a buffer period though. Maybe models that were uploaded within the week before the contest opening day should be allowed, since those are technically still newish. But a model that was made last year has already had its time to shine.

@Madmax hopefully they do.

We appreciate your input. Currently, we are not prohibiting older models from entering our contests, but they will not be chosen as contest winners. Qjo is accurate in stating that our goal is to draw in skilled designers with their latest models to MakerWorld. Allowing older models to win would diminish the hard work of designers striving to create new designs for our contests. If you encounter any older models that have been awarded in future contests, please don’t hesitate to inform us. Thanks for your continued support.
