I have intermittent weird texture spots showing up on prints using silk filament. I’ve tried both drying the filament and calibrating the flow rate and temp of the filament. It does seem to happen only with silks and a variety of brands (eryone, 3dgenius, rongtong, mkoem). Would love some ideas about how I can fix this.
I’ve run into this phenomena myself. Since you already calibrated and dried the filament, that is 99% of the remedies available.
However, one thing I did notice was that there are five additional adjustments that one might try that do impact the quality of the outer wall. Here’s what worked for me in order of most effective to least effective.
- increase the number of wall loops from the default of 2 to something like 3 or 4.
- At the same time, change the wall order from the default of inner/outer to outer/inner. These two settings will force the walls to set up first and often that alone can help.
- Increase the filament temps by a large amount (great than 10C) just to see if it influences the model.
- Change the angle of the model orientation on the build plate. For some strange reason, when using Bambu Silk in particular, if I rotated the model 15degree, it impacted how the outer walls were laid down. Often this would just move the problem to another side of the model which lead me to believe that chamber temperature may have had an influence.
- On this same vain, Move the model to another part of the build plate like the back left corner near the poop chute. That too had a great affect on filament “curing” which again, makes me thing chamber temps have an influence.
- Change the outer wall speed to half of what it is by default. The default is 200mm/s. Try 100mm/s
- Try changing the max volumetric speed to a value that is double what you have right now and half of what you have to see if it will change the or influence this artifact in either value direction. Default is 12, so try let’s say 6 and 18 to start. That should influence the model one way or another.
Thank you! I’ll have to give each of these a try and see what makes a difference. I’m running a test with higher temp and slower outer wall speed right now.
Hi! How did it work out? I have a similar problem when printing with PLA silk.
