Sealing PETG-CF with Shellac

Hey Everyone,

Recently started using PETG-CF I got with my X1C and have been having some excellent results. I ran in to the thread about CF filaments lodging micro splinters in to the skin. Despite no irritation or visual signs, after taking a look through my digital microscope my hands are indeed loaded with small carbon fiber shards.

Id still like to use the CF filament for the project I’m working on but would like to seal them if possible. Has anyone ever used shellac to seal there 3d prints? I did a small test and it appears to adhere fine, but have not tested its ability yet to reduce the splintering. Any other suggestions on easy-sealing techniques (ideally spray or wipe) would be helpful.

Thanks

Acryllic paint comes to mind. Water based is a bit more difficult but I have had quick success with email variants.
If objects are handled frequently, something more durable may be needed.

Thanks this helps, used an automotive acrylic enamel and it appears to have worked great. Glad I don’t need to abandon carbon fiber filament completely.
