Selecting Effects Plate for printing

With the latest versions of Studio there is a drop-down list of plates. But it does not have “Special Effects plate” as an option. Is this an oversight or which plate style should I select?

Let’s be candid—the plate selection option is misleading. It’s intended to allow users to set the first layer and subsequent layer temperatures, but beyond that, it doesn’t make any difference. Ideally, it should be an editable label that users can modify. For example, the Special Effects plate typically uses settings similar to the Smooth plate, but the specific filament used will affect how the plate performs. A better approach would be to offer a starting template for each build plate—similar to how printer profiles work—and allow users to save their own variations. For instance, one might save profiles like “Special Effects - PLA” or “Special Effects - Silk.”

Look at the Cool Plate versus the Cool Plate (SuperTack). In my version of Orca, the cool plate isn’t even defined. So I have 6 plate definitions taking up screen real estate. For what purpose?

Outside of marketing their new plate, what good does it really do? In my view, this area is really wasted screen real estate that would be better served by a drop-down box where one could simply modify and name each plate with their own preferences. I admit, it’s minor nitpick but it is what I would expect from a more mature software product which Bambu Studio and other slicers still have a ways to go in my view.

Let’s be candid, the state of the Bambu Studio software user interface is a far cry from where it needs to be. As an example, last time I looked, they still didn’t support tear away parameter settings like Orca does and it took them forever to incorporate the view cube that Orca has had for the last year.

Also, Why are their two menu systems? Has anyone asked that question? I’ll answer it. It’s likely because their dev team is disjointed and rushed it out to the market without polishing the UI.
