ok, I’ll admit it.
I get a toaster for every positive thread I create. I get 1/8 of $.01 for every comment, and on Tuesdays they buy me a burger and I don’t have to pay them back.
Ya got me.

Calm down and pause before hitting reply.
I think you are of the view that you are happy with Bambu and any bad that Bambu does is ok because it has no visible effect to your use of the printer and I respect that perfectly valid point of view.
I am of the view that Bambu has as matter of fact changed terms and conditions after the sale of hardware and software. That does not contradict with my viewpoint either that I get great prints from my A1. These are two separate aspects.
Are both views valid at the same time, yes but facts matter and your viewpoint does not overrule mine. I don’t see you arguing the facts, just arguing about the positions/ideology. Does my viewpoint affect your use of hardware, no.
I would say Ricky Gervais captures the essence of this situation in that some are offended by his jokes. So for those reasons I bow out of this thread.
That did not answer my question how you tell them apart
Simple. … Use the Force…

For those who are trying to defend Bambu, can you please answer a very simple question (but sticking to the facts): How does Bambu breaking the law and harassing a person helps you?
Prusa Research also released a statement that kind of got lost in the shuffle. For anyone who’s just catching up on the topic: Bambu Studio is based on PrusaSlicer by Prusa Research, which is from Slic3r by Alessandro Ranellucci and the RepRap community.
After all, it was Bambu’s own decision to build on Prusa Research’s fork. So this isn’t primarily about the Orca Slicer, but rather the Prusa Slicer and how Bambu violated the license.
Here is an snippet; the full statement is available via the Twitter/X link below:
If you were really open about things, you’d admit that all the hazzle has to do with american legislation against printing weapons or parts thereof (which is ridiculous as long as you can buy any gun desired at your local walmart, but here we are). You want to be able to still sell printers on the american market after said legislation has been passed and there’s nothing wrong with that.
But in order for your argument to work, that every part is ai-checked pre-printing so nothing “bad” can be printed, you need to be able to control who uses your cloud. That’s all there is to this.
Prove, with a conviction, judgement or otherwise, they have broken the law here.
Prove to me how you have been harmed.
You cannot invoke “AGPL” or Open Source. Explain how you, as a user, are not allowed to use Orca or your printer no longer does anything it was advertised to do out of the box. In a nutshell tell me how your printer is broken.
To answer your question. To split hairs, I don’t believe they have broken the law. To that I mean they’ve been convicted in the OS court of opinion and by a YouTuber who rakes in the views from dipshittery. No court has a judgement. No lawsuit has been won or lost. Until then, I will use my machine because it works, and because it does exactly what I spent money on it to do.
I’m not playing the whole AGPL or die game. Dude circumvented networking. He knew what he was doing would earn him a lawsuit. Full stop. Orca is still available and can be used. LAN mode still exists if you don’t want the Cloud.
Again, I wish you guys would just be honest. You don’t care about anything other than either being correct and getting your way. AGPL is just the horse your riding into battle.
In a few weeks this too will die, as it did before. In a few weeks all those that claim the Devil made their printers will still be using their printers. The chip on their shoulders wil be a little smaller. In a few weeks all those that claim they’re done will still be here, like they are now when they’ve said it before. In a few weeks YouTube will find another evil they must champion for clicks. Make no mistake, it’s not about the open source. It’s about being angry and stomping your feet until you get your way. Just wish you guys would be honest.
And yet, after all this, some people are still asking for things that were responded with official and legal weight. It’s not about the youtubers clout or will to earn some bucks through users, it’s about some users still not understanding what is really going on and how they believe, and want others to do the same, that they are the only ones right.
This is the kind of behavior that i have seen in several topics that usually get closed and always due to the behavior of the same users and i have already complained about it.
Note: this is not directed to a very specific user, so you, as user, take it as you will.
Luis Rossmann and his following is Bambu’s biggest issues now. He has several thousand followers with deep pockets. Just one of them gave him 900k in the past.
We have a customer base of roughly 15k customers. They will all be informed today via newsletter.
Just to point it out, other huge tech channels have joined in, as have lawyers. I would even go so far as to say that lawyers wield enormous leverage because they have the necessary expertise.
Now Pura Research has stepped in too. In my opinion, that’s actually the most serious part of all, since Bambu is based on their copyleft license and code / fork. I think some people still don’t understand what it means when Prusa proves Bambu of violating the license? In fact, they’ve already provided the proof, the real deal.
So it’s no longer users / developers versus Bambu, but company versus company.
I really hope Bambu reconsiders and says, “Sorry, we never do that again.”
I know how this will end up, no more cloud integration into bambu studio and everyone will loose.
You’re just kiddind yourselves if you think bambu connect will be released for anyone to access the cloud as they pleased. If that goes too far, Bambu will just build a proprietary software to connect to the cloud. No more print from bambu studio, no more open in BS from makerworld. We’ll have to save our 3mf in BS or download it from maketworld and then use bambu software to print. Is it what you want?
Prusa jumped in for good (commercial) reasons
Prusa has stepped in because Bambu is using their license and violating it. No company wants another company to violate its license. Bambu doesn’t have to use this license and fork by Prusa; they can also use the license from Slic3r.
That’s also separate from the cloud discussion. In fact, the case is so isolated that it deserves its own thread. However, I won’t open one.
No reason for scaremongering
It will happen sooner or later. They will break all integration and interoperability for the sake of closing down the ecosystem. They can build integrations of their own. I’m sure that whatever happens Maker world to slicer integration will be first thing that will be working correctly. It’s their only lifeline. They lost hardware advantage, they are loosing software battle and only way they could stay relevant is if the model repository stays relevant. I don’t think they do themselves any favour by allowing all of the AI slop but this is for different conversation.
Although i don’t use the cloud, i am not against it. I already stated that i don’t want Bambu to burn and i even want them to grow even more. My wife uses the cloud all the time with the A1 Mini and for her, it’s wonderful.
I think the biggest problem is that Bambu is going against what they promised when they kickstarted their campaign. And since i am one of those backers, i feel betrayed after seeing some of their directions after they grew (i know, it’s business). I am all in for their closed hardware because it’s good, although i also consider that these last iterations of their machines were kind of “rushed” and came out with some problems of their own. There can’t be perfect and i get it too.
They did it with the “safety” reasons for their connect plugin. They did it with their false legal allegations about the current discussed fork and this shows how a company will behave in the future if let go with only a slap in the wrist. Some people say this will die like last time but here’s the thing… it never died! Behind the scenes there was lots more happening than people here in the forum are willing to discuss. This will always be brought up when the next “oopsie” happens again. Will they lose customers? No! Because their base customer are those who want to plug it in and click a button. Are those who see Bambu machines as a money printing machine. Are those who like to simply do stuff, without complications. It’s for those who see Bambu marketing videos and think “wow, i can buy a printer like this and start doing bike helmets for free” (based on their last marketing video).
Then everyone around here advocates that only the tinkerers are the ones offended but let’s get this straight. As soon as repairs are needed, tinkering is also needed and those who are against tinkering will have to do it. Hypocrisy much?!
Want to see how much of tinkering is needed for these machines, although it’s always being said here that no one wants that or that these machines are “tinker” free?
These are some of the quick examples i saw in the first page. There are way more than what i want to search for. They all have something in common. Tinkering is needed! Some topics even show that there is an underlying problem with certain machines that can’t be repaired or fixed by users and yeat, they tinker. They change, they repair, they “tune”, etc.
Am i against it? Not at all, i am a tinkerer myself but i am also an advocate for consumer rights and some of these machines are truly expensive to the point where i, a tinkerer by nature, don’t want to touch them but want them repaired instead. After all, they are machines marketed at me, the person who does only want to print.
Again, i am not against Bambu in everything, i am just a person that has been fckd by companies over and over until i woke up and decided that it was enough. Since then i started fighting for my rights as a consumer and in some occasions i even went the legal way. It is what it is.
Don’t you all be like me, but do what is right so that when your time comes, you know you will be covered ![]()
Sorry for the long text and wish you a pleasant weekend ![]()
Not enough, in my view. Bambu has to provide a firmware and software update restoring the existing functions prior to January 16th 2025 to all the existing printers, without losing any current functionalities for the newer launched models (post-January 2025).
Well, as I’ve said - done that. I’ve showed in this thread exact points of the license and how they’ve broken.
You are yet to argue with the license.
How so? There is a license for the underlying software, it requires them to opensource the slicer as a whole, including all dynamically linked libraries. They haven’t done that. That triggers the clause that forbids them from using that code until they fix the violation. By continuing using it they are violating laws as they are unlawfully using a software to which they don’t hold a license. That part was proven in court by many cases - search for all the cases about GPL violations.
Again, I’m repeating to you for the third time - if you want to argue that there is no AGPL violation here and therefore no laws were broken - use the license text and official FAQ and Bambu Studio’s Source Code to prove me wrong, or find an error in my analysis that I won’t be able to fix or justify.
Until then there is no reason not to say that Bambu here in violation of AGPL and therefore breaking the law by continuing distributing the Bambu Studio.
Please elaborate. As it is not clear what exactly you mean and what laws that dude has broken. Just to be more clear - “networking” is a generic term about network connectivity - and the dude haven’t circumvented it, he just used Bambu Studio’s source code that Bambu published and ported a small portion of it into Orca slicer. That is explicitly allowed by AGPL, btw.
If you think so, please show exact trace in the source code and point out which law that violates and where, and in addition which point in the license that violates. Like I did previously with the proof of AGPL violation here: Setting the Record Straight on Cloud Access and Community - #373 by Civiloid
If you want our interaction to be constructive - try to answering my question in exact way how I’ve asked it and show how Bambu violating the laws and harassing a developer (who was in his rights) helps personally you.
This will be argued until the end of days…
The network plug in is not part of the slicer as covered by the AGPL license. It is closed source.
Unethical? Maybe
Illegal? No
Again, the network plugin and cloud services are connected but separate to the slicer. Disagree all you want.
But Jesus Christ, this turns into repeating the same thing over and over again. I will care more when legal action is taken. BTW, from what I have read, there has been no official C&D, it was only a threat. No one has ground to stand on because no official action has been taken.
Side note:
I think this is interesting/funny. The post from Joseph Prusa pointed out that 90 percent of the code in their slicer is shared with Slic3r. Makes me wonder how much of Bambu Studio still shares code with Slic3r or Prusa Slicer.
At what point does the product differentiate itself from the original?
Side note 2:
I think open source is dying. Ill bring linux into this. Android runs on a linux kernel, most companies lock it down to all ■■■■. Most modern automotive infotainment systems run on a version of linux, they are almost impossible to break. Steam Deck? Alexa? Smart TVs?
Side note 3:
I have heard people saying that they can not use DMCA because the developer is based in the EU.
But Github is based in the US? So it would put it in the jurisdiction of the US laws.
Lots of messy ■■■■.
Side note 4:
Then you have people claiming that this is going to be the downfall of Bambu. Which I find odd. Most of the customer base does not care.
100 percent agree. But on the other hand, they are getting themselves into ■■■■ without experiencing almost any consequences.
Loose a few, gain thousands.
TLDR; I am sick of hearing this everywhere. Bambu just need to give in at this point or controversy like this will continue to happen. Most of their customer base does not care, they will continue to use Handy and Studio without a second thought. If they can take 1 week with a team of developers to fix their “security issues” and revamp their software, this could all be easy. F it, bring Pavel on as a developer, he can probably fix in no time.
I do not have to justifying how I feel, what I think to you. Sorry. I don’t answer to you in any way. Here you go though, cause I’m tired of this bs.
I’ll state this. I feel good about it. That helps me. (short and sweet because I’m tired of the crusade your on)
So if they sue his pants off, throw him into homelessness and curb stomp every zealot on the planet I’ll feel fan-freaking-tastic.
You know who else will, your boy Louis. Then he can gather even more clicks on his grand windmill tour. So will you. It will keep your anger going, make you feel justified and superior to all of us who don’t have two dead rats to hurl at it.
Enjoy.
