Setting the Record Straight on Cloud Access and Community

If you ahve a printer with 3 AMS units connected to a printer and you load 12 spools to it…. you’re gonna know what each tray has when you’re making your selection in slicer?

When at time you could just tell the printer what brand/type you loaded in while you’re loading it and when you walk to your slicer all you have to do is press sync and all 12 will sync up and auto load your custom profiles that you made for those filament?

You rather go down 12 different slots on your Slicer and pick each one manually, because you know what each tray has, that’s fine if that works for you.

Maybe its different with a diaspora of reels like that but I guess you are right. I do quite prefer my method, I like saving data to one datastore whenever possible as it makes it ready to backup. [Real backups, not cloud copies, the distinction is important and the topic of this discussion]

Your method is fine for what you’re doing. It doesn’t work w/ what I have and how I use it.

The thing is, the feature to manage it all and automate it DOES exist as I laid out above, but it’s locked behind the requirement that you connect both the Studio AND your printer to the cloud so the printer can retrieve and store the data. Which goes back original point of mine, it’s nothing that can’t be sent directly to be stored. Local Network/Developer mode should allow me to send it locally, If anything I should be able to send it over SSH or other means. Even Bambu Connect via LAN, but NONE of that is possible.

Only way is to periodically upload this data to the cloud (by signing in on Studio) and then download them to the printer by connecting it to cloud……then you can go back on LAN mode.

They have audacity to say things like “more advanced users can use LAN/DEV/Connect”……well not when you lock out printer features behind the cloud only lol.

I’ve still managed assign filaments and link profiles by scanning tags with the little they do give access to… just scan tray, scan spool, it pops up on printer, studio and updates in my Spoolman Filament Tracker (another open source idea they decided to add with their own “Filament Manager” except it sucks lol) https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1u0yx09/custom_filament_profile_assignment_with_rfid/
