I was slicing a model I pulled off of Printables and I saw what turned out to be the users Printables name.
It is buried in the infill and it took me a few passes in the Preview section of Studio.
How is that done and is that a mechanism to say who is the originator of the model?
You could add text in Bambu Studio to the top surface.
Select the text, select move and then set the Z to what dimension you want.
I you want to store more information, I guess you could embed a QR code.
could be done with pretty much any design software that has a text feature including tinkercad which I use alot, great strategy to “watermark” your items. Pretty much add text where you desire the slicer with translate it as part of the print so the infill will just fill the voids around it as usual.
this i read somewhere how to make best “watermark” sine if it is made on the outside of object it is easily discoverable and thus editable. This makes a bit hard for the “designers” to steal online models and claiming their own. Since the are lazy most likely do not notice “watermark” so original author can easily confirm / prove whose design it it - clever solution.
But then it’s not embedded in the model. If you download the model only, no watermark is not in the model data. Isn’t it? You have to download the 3mf file. Will it stay in the model, if you export this as STL file from Bambu Studio?
Often when I saw a model with a watermark on the outer surface, I am asking the designer to change this to a hidden watermark (I recommend something on the height of 0.6 from bottom, so typically layer 4+). I hate visible watermarks, I do not want to have any model in my home making advertisment for something, that nobody will know (“what is cooldesigner69?”).
On the other side hidden watermarks are great to protect your work!
Please read the rest of my post.
Sure, I read the whole post. This does only work, if the project file (3mf) is used for printing and at least a second color is also used. If not, the watermark will disappear.
Watermarks do not protect your work. They can be easily removed, or added by a 3rd party.
If your design is original it will show in the work. The date it was originally uploaded can be used to show it was yours first. Those are the only two tools you have to protect a 3D model once it is shared publicly.
Therefore adding a watermark is a poor design choice as far as I’m concerned. It ruins the surface if added to the outside. No matter where you add it, a watermark increases print time and can affect overall quality. So dont ruin a great design with your ego!
It was random luck that I happened to see that watermark?
Just wanted to hear what people thought of that.
I am building a spool winder I got off of Printables that has a bunch of parts.
Went and looked at/sliced another part and same watermark.
That is the kind of response of some one that love to steal people stuff
