Ive used nearly every color and material in bambus library and ive come to the conclusion that the silk filaments have bad layer adhesion. Most likely, the stock settings for it need slowed way down. They already have it set at 230c to fight the issue but thats not enough. been makeing trophies for a local business and the silk breaks super easy. Even with 5 walls on a miniature trophy in silent mode.
Anybody have settings that work well? Im at the point where im about to just run the whole print at 2010 creality speeds
Before we start speculating, what print settings are you using?
I’m currently printing an object in Silk PLA only. I hope it won’t break, but let’s see.
I can confirm that at least the Bambu PLA Copper has low layer adhesion with the default settings. It is possible for me to rip them apart by hand with 4 walls failing load tranfer. Of course, failure occurs at sharp object edges (i.e. Stress concentration) so I cannot quantify.
at bambu preset settings. Ive tried alot of things but speed is literally the only thing that helps. 100mm/ps helps but it still breaks easy. And thats all at 230c. Im not trying to go any higher than that because high heat also = brittle parts in other ways not connected to layer adhesion.
I feel like i should add that ive been doing this for many moons and am usually very good at dialing these things in. I would never reach out for help unless it was last resort. I bought alot of silk filament on black friday. Alot alot.
Hmm, I have other Silk PLA, not from Bambu, set to 10mm³/s and speeds well over 100mm/s, with a 0.2 nozzle; but less than 230°C. Layer hight at 0.06mm. It’s also not that stable, that’s true, but stable enough with 4 walls. I have printed a figure, the outer shell is then a little more stable in itself. When I press the object together, it also crunches very gently.
Tonight I tried to print Gold Silk, the result was not quite so nice. At the first attempt the filament it didn’t seem to stick and was like straw, the individual threads came loose as soon as I removed it from the print bed. Because it sometimes stuck to the nozzle and the print was not usable in the end, but it was still finished (it was also just a test to judge the appearance of the material), I am now drying the filament. To be able to print it at all, I changed the ventilation. AUX fan off and the component cooler at 50%, the temperature at maximum in the temperature range, 0.2 nozzle, 0.08mm layer height, 50mm/s speed. However, I will lower the temperature a few degrees Celsius again later when printing and also reduce the speed to 20mm/s (simply because differences in gloss at different speeds are extremely noticeable).
