So I just bought some Bambu Labs gold silk pla and when I was printing, I noticed that it would sometimes get stuck on the nozzle but I thought nothing about it since it would just clean it off but, it would string some time to time. After my print was finished, I would try to assemble my print since I was printing a carrot knife but when I put one piece that is supposed to hold it on together, It would just snap and fall apart.
If I understand you correctly, you’re printing and then later assembly two functional parts. If that is the case, put simply silk is not suited nor intended for that. Silk is a pretty material meant for printing shiny shimmering prints and that’s it. It is not intended for structural parts as you just found out.
Outside of printing figures and pretty bowls, I have not found much use for silk. It is truly the arts and crafts end of the 3D printing hobby.
Here is a test of different PLA just f.y.i… From my experience, the silk PLA is maybe 10 to 15% less strength.
On his website https://www.mytechfun.com you can find a lot of test data.
