I’m an A 1 w/AMS user. Have had several failed prints using Silk PLA. Printing two “Juice Box Holder” on the plate & it gets to 72% and stringiness occurs. Actually an upright part snapped causing stringiness. Prior to printing I calibrated the machine and dried the filament for 12 hours. This has happened several times. Is it the silk filament being about six to nine months old? I actually successfully printed three of the same using basic PLA!
I have to ask….Are you using the PLA Silk print profile or the PLA Basic profile? Silk takes a little more heat to get any layer adhesion and it is still pretty weak.
Also silk is more sensitive to moisture than basic PLA. Make sure you have dried the filament first.
Yes I have used the filament in the past. I’ve encountered some issues with it but generally it prints fairly when. I can try to turn down the speed of the print. Is that an issue with silk at times?
Just saying dried for 12 hours isn’t enough information to know how dry the filament actually is because not all dryers are equally effective. Some drying setups can be pretty ineffective, unfortunately.
And storage information is also important - open, in plastic bags, in cereal containers, humidity monitored, etc. What is the humidity in the AMS? Ambient humidity in the room?
Without photos of your prints it’s harder to say but I agree with @blchandl2 — it sounds like moisture.
You mentioned time a few times too and that’s important especially if you aren’t doing anything to control filament moisture and live in a moderate humidity environment. Filaments pick up moisture over time. Filament that starts out printing well but gradually prints worse and worse is a strong indication of humidity issues. (And new filament may or may not be dry.)
But not enough info to really say for sure. Big questions for me are humidity in the AMS, ambient humidity, and how you store and dry your filament.
