The SimEyeSee WarpShield is a lightweight airflow deflector that prints alongside your model. Instead of blocking airflow, it redirects the auxiliary fan’s side blast upward and along the actively printing layers. This protects the lower layers where warping usually begins, while still allowing strong cooling for overhangs, bridges, thin walls, and fine details.
It was originally developed while designing my EmBlazeGuard panels, which rely on aggressive cooling for detail quality but were highly prone to fan-side warping. The WarpShield allows that cooling to be used safely.
Key points:
-
Allows running the auxiliary fan at ~70% or higher without fan-side warping
-
Prints alongside the model (not a printer-mounted accessory)
-
Works with both single-color and multi-color prints
-
In multi-color prints, purge material can be routed into the WarpShield to reduce waste
-
Thin ~1 mm walls, low material use, minimal added print time
-
Free for personal and commercial use with attribution
I’ve included extensive testing results, setup guidance, Fusion and STEP files, and usage examples on the project page.
