Simplified Cold Pull Procedure A1

I’ve developed a modified cold pull procedure for my A1 printer. I think it works well and is easier than the official method (both on me and on the extruder gears).

I have an AMS.

Before starting I remove the hot end front plate and the silicon sock. I use the filament menu to load a filament. Then I use the filament menu to unload the filament. I watch the hot end temperature as it cools down. Once it reached 70 degrees, I used a pair of needle nose pliers to open the nozzle clasp and remove the nozzle. I then grab the nozzle with an oven mitt and use the pliers to pull the filament out of the nozzle from the top (there’s a little piece of filament remaining from the unload).

If needed, I reinstall the nozzle and repeat.

What does the community think about this.

70 is a little to cold IMO…try 95-100*.

Interesting. Basically instead of the machine holding the nozzle and you yanking filament out, youre making the extruder hold the filament and youre yanking the nozzle out. Certainly lets you look at the bore of the nozzle right afterwards a lot easier.

Ill try it next time

No, I’m not making the extruder hold the filament. During the unload process, the filament is cut and unloaded back to the AMS. The only filament left in the nozzle is a few mm between the cutter and the nozzle. There’s no filament holding the nozzle to the extruder.
