Single color partially failed in last few layers of print job

I’m fairly new to 3d printing and do not know what would cause the single red color of filament to suddenly fail in small outer portion of a large print in the last few layers of the project, creating a growing number strings out over the edge that eventually gent pulled by the printhead when eventually it does the black and white colors.

A1 using default 0.2 settings with default .08 high quality settings for the textured plate. Default settings for generic PLA on the AMS. All the colors are Inland PLA+ and used in several print jobs right before with no issues with the same settings.

No issues anywhere else on the print, everything is smooth and clean. The strings started to appear on or after layer 60 of 65, even after 24 hours of continuous printing overnight without a problem in any color. Very frustrating to have it fail like this in the home stretch of a 27 hour job that was going to be a gift.

Any theories or suggestions on how to avoid this happening again would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue like that. It was because the part lifted from the plate (warpage). All the layers above that were just smeared all over the place with obvious gouges caused by the tip melting previous layers. Poor adhesion is the primary cause.

Use plain dish soap and a clean scrub brush and wash the plate. Rinse well and dry with a paper towel. Do not touch the face of the plate with your hands or a cloth that may have been dried with a dryer sheet or washed with a softener additive. Either will leave behind a waxy residue.

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll give it a try with a 2nd go.
