for some reason the top and bottom layers look all messyand theres tons of gaps between layer lines and it comes out with rough spots because of these gaps. anyone know how to clean it up?
Try a smaller layer height, to get better detail on non flat surfaces. Or variable layer height.
Think of it like a terrain map. The shallower the details, the bigger the gap thats needed between lines. Make the layers half the height, and youll get twice the detail.

The reason is you are using FDM, get a resin printer if you mainly print things like this.
Slice your model a couple times while toggling the following:
- Only one wall on top surfaces either OFF or with different threshholds
- Top surface pattern of concentric, or something else that isnt monotonic
2a) This might not be a top surface and be classified as “Internal solid infill”, you can tell by checking the line type preview, can’t tell from the screenshot
