hiya everyone,
So I am pulling my hair out attempting to add colour to words that are below the level of the last layer, so I want to design a button for a flight simulator, white on black, so I can get my design looking great with wording set in 1.5mm below the surface, I use the colouring/painting feature to add the white into the lettering…looks bloody amazing…until its sliced, then there are bits of lettering missing, white dots here and there etc etc.
So I chose to add the lettering on top of the button, colour the lettering white and boom pow same problem after slicing, Im relatively new to the Bambu slicer so pardon my ignorance if I have overlooked a setting or something.
I do hope someone can shed some light on this issue.
thanks
What light is required?
Candle, torch, search light ?
Let me try quick and dirty:
Have two models, one for the text, the other the remaining model with the text removed from it.
Add as a single model with multiple parts.
Use the slice by object feature.
The text has to be with a wider line width than what your nozzle can properly reproduce!
For example the word “Hello” printed just 4mm wide would probably result in impossible thin lines.
Missing bits are usually the result of this.
You can to compensate by using Arachne for the wall generation.
It won’t fix the impossible but often is able to get more details.
If none of this works due to the letters being too small try this:
Print the letters as a cut out on a thing piece.
Coming out with enough details?
Give the surface a fine sanding to get it smooth and push some modelling clay or coloured candle wax into the letters.
Scrape off with a sharp blade (maybe after a bit of heating if you used wax) and give a last fine sanding.
Still comes out great?
Print your model in tow parts to join so one has the text while other covers what comes above.
Fill with paint or such and glue together.
You can to do in one print by adding pause but if you smear over it is hard to correct…
Hey,
Thanks for such and indepth explination and possible fixes to my issue.
Im not sure where I put the word light then I did type this half asleep.
I will try later to see how I get on.
Kudos to you for sure.
You hoped someone could shed some light so maybe there?
Not really sure where the problem is but since on a button cap I’m guessing the text is pretty small.
If the text is small, maybe it’s too small for the slicer to be able to put a color filament strand there and that’s why dots and missing parts? The preview image will tell that tale. If filament extrusions for the lettering taper and stop from being too small, that’s it.
If it’s a problem with painting color in the slicer though, you might need to build the button cap in a regular 3D modeling program and extrude the letters into their own file that gets loaded as a unit with the rest of the keycap (that has a matching cut extrusion to make way for the color) in Studio. There you can assign colors and slicing works great on that kind of thing for me.
Thats great thankyou, Ive decided that maybe letters on a 12mm x 6mm button cap is asking to much for my simple self to get to grips with so I am going to cut the letters out with my plotter and apply them.
But I really do appreciate your explination !
If it is that the lettering is too small for the slicer to put it in properly, you may have another way. If you have a smaller nozzle/extruder you can print finer detail and that might get you properly formed letters.
