Small uneveness on outwall - but only on certain sides

Hi folks,

I just printed a mug with my X1C with my usual settings. Since this part is very regular with 4 sides. I noticed something strange. I would love hear from you all what might be the cause and how to fix it.

Here is the part.

You can see on this side (the one facing back of the printer I believe) it is completely smooth.

On this side, however, there are many small dots that looks like under flow of the filament.

This happens on multiple sides too:

But on the side with the handle, left side of the handle seems completely fine:

The part was from here: LowPoly Mug (2 versions) by marekzeman91 - MakerWorld

The second plate. I printed with handy app with my own filament settings.

I suspect that this might be related to my nozzle (which is 0.4 and only had about 300 - 400 hours of printing).

Anyone has suggestions on how to debug and fix this? Much appreciated!

Its a thing. Theres a really long thread about it here.

Thank you! I don’t know if I read that thread correctly, but should I redo the belt tension again? I did recently do that as part of the maintenance procedure.

In the end, sometimes it doesnt go away. Its a trade off of core xy. You can get it down to a minimum with speed, tensioning exactly as bambu suggests and some are resorting to the ptfe tape mod. I personally just deal with it. It is what it is. Belt teeth have 2mm gaps and stepper motors have a minimum step size.

Some of it could also be due to where it sits on the bed, in relation to where the auxiliary part cooling fan is blowing.

OK, I did more testing with a primitive cube (1inch in size as the default). It seems that this problem is really with layer height for me. The default 0.2mm is much worse with this problem but 0.08mm is way better esp. when I slow down the outer wall speed (I used 30mm/s).

This is the first print with 200mm/s with 0.08. You can see some rings on the front.

This is with 30mm/s and 0.08. Rings are gone.

These are with 0.2m layer height both high and low outer wall speed. The dots are much worse.

Then I went back to 0.08 and it is much better now.

I also did re-adjust the 4 tension screws as suggested by the standard maintenance procedure. It didn’t make any big difference to me. Maybe the 0.08 print after the maintenance is slightly better. But not so sure.

I tested on 2 different types of filament. Pretty sure this is actually mainly due to the filament I was using. I guess the lesson is to stick with good filaments, not cheap ones.
