Smooth PEI plate recommendations?

I love the gold textured PEI plate but sometimes I want a smooth bottom. Is there an equivalent smooth PEI plate? Or is the lightyear G10 what I’m looking for? Or maybe I need to make friends with the std hot plate and glue (which I do use on the tex PEI plate)?

I have had good results with the Bambu Labs High Temp Plate, it’s smooth PEI and works very well. Bambu High Temperature Plate (Smooth PEI) | Bambu Lab Global
Also, the Wham Bam plates produce glass smooth bottom surface texture that is pretty impressive.

I hadn’t realized that the Hot Plate is indeed a smooth PEI plate. So the difference WRT the whambam is satin vs glossy finish?

Sorry for the slow reply. Yes the Bambu hot plate is smooth but more of a satin finish and the whambam is a glossy finish.

Hallo,
für eine glatte Oberfläche auf dem Heizbett empfehle ich wie joeffx die “Hot Plate” von Bambu Labs. Habe ebenfalls hervorragende Ergebnisse erzielt.
Allerdings nutze ich Holzleimwasser zur Vorbereitung der “Hot Plate”. Ich mische nur ganz wenig Holzleim mit Wasser an. So das eine milchige Flüssigkeit entsteht. So ca. 6:1 (6x Wasser + 1x Holzleim). Dann das Heizbett auf ca. 60-65 Grad aufheizen und ein Papiertuch mit der Flüssigkeit tränken. Dann mit diesem auf der gesamten heißen Platte immer wieder kreuzweise diese anfeuchten. Nach ca. 5-6x darüber wischen ist alles fertig. Perfekte und unsichtbare Leimschicht die schon einige Durchläufe hält. Geht übrigens auch auf der “Cold Plate”.

I’ve been using the Bambu hot plate since my post. My observations:

  • parts are more difficult to get off than from the textured plate, but nothing bad
  • the texture is smooth but I don’t find it beautiful, one sees the bottom layer lines (I do use a .6 nozzle) and unless the plate was well cleaned & glued one gets markings from the previous print
  • with the textured plate the surface has the texture, not layer lines, and glue/part residue is less visible

My conclusion:

  • overall the textured plate is a bit easier to use and produces neater surfaces, especially if one is lazy with plate prep
  • the hot plate is useful when one needs a smooth surface (duh)
  • to get a nice smooth surface with the hot plate the plate needs to be well prepared
