First I thought this is too good to be true. Nope, it is true!
Black Friday deal… valid for a very brief time (actually till first week of December, but they like to call it “the first year”)… afterwards you’ll be charged the full amount they’ve intended from the beginning…jawdropping price…[lol]
hmm no mac / linux software so you either have a windows machine or you have to be on the cloud version…
If you have a Mac, you can still run xShape and xDesign.I run them even on my iPad.
This is what I used to make this:
The tutorials are excellent:
Thank you for posting this! I’ve never used Solidworks but for $24 I’ll definitely give it a shot.
thanks for sharing, but not really a fan of those style of apps, i like the more traditional cad approach, wanted to see if i could do the same in solidwork as in fusion as this definitely a LOT cheaper
I’m not fan of cloud based stuff… old school here; what i buy comes with me for good. So it’s either a full (lifetime) licensed download or else it’s not going to happen that you get my money for something you have full control over…
Many thanks for this heads-up
Installing the local 3DX version now
Curious to see what has changed in the last 2 decades and what is actually included in the price. Would be nice to have the fastener libraries…
I can already see that the usual DS licence/pricing is as intransparent as expected. Would have loved to also install the Simulation package but since I know what these cost commercially…
If you have a Windows machine, you can install SW Pro. This is the version that is supplied for makers.
You are right, this is a yearly license; not perpetual.
I used Solidworks professionally for over a decade. When they first rolled out Solidworks for Makers I tried it and at the time you couldn’t pay me to use it because of all the bugs and licensing problems. Hopefully they have figured that out now.
Have they changed that you can’t move a design from the Maker edition to the Pro edition?
The full price being $48?
This remains a limitation. As far as I know, models created with the Makers version cannot be opened in the commercial version.
For 3DPrinting, that is not an issue for me.
Ask me that after the end of their promotion period…
Given that it doesn’t work on Mac (assuming I don’t want the cloud version) I’m most likely not gonna buy it, but thanks for the intel lol
Has anybody tried to sign up for the cloud account?
…waiting for an email to activate the new account and it hasn’t come.
If you use a Gmail account, check the All Mail folder.
It arrived the next day.
My guess is that it requires a human to approve.
Onshape is a very powerful CAD software and has a free version without restrictions. The learning curve probably smaller compared to SolidWorks.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know, the free version of Onshape gives the user no privacy. Your models are public domain, correct?
Also, does it have SubD capability?
Indeed, there’s no privacy, no protection of the data (personal and design), and whatever is designed under the free version is made publicly available to other parties
