Speculation about new printer announcements

Something just occurred to me - move the laser beam to the left so that it hits at the extrusion point, so that it welds the bottom of the new layer to the top of the previous layer, which could roughly double the layer adhesion strength of a lot of materials.

This could be used in conjuction with more part cooling to eliminate sagging and allow higher print speeds.

[edit] The very localized beam would limit the total additional energy input.
