This is a Million$ question. As you mentioned, it depends on which features the printer will entail, when it will arrive and at what cost.
The time is this year - is it acceptable?
If I knew that the new flagship cost would be about the same as the current one, it would be worth waiting for. But I don’t, neither exist info about it.
Now, pure speculation, I would expect that a larger printer with multiple breakthrough features comes with a higher price tag. But BL also can surprise, and considering the last release’s strategy, it doesn’t seem that releasing printers for a minority of end-users is within their goals. Again, this is random thought and pure speculation. I don’t hold any information to back it up.
The X1C is a fantastic printer with a large community, and I even consider it overpowered for your intended use. I think it is currently the best printer on the market at the desktop printer level. Unfortunately, despite other brands’ innovations, I believe none come near, considering features and price.
Concerning customer support, based on my experience (which is certainly different from others), I’ve never had a single situation where they run away from responsibility, so I can’t consider it awful. But certainly not great. Regarding support, I think having some experience with 3D printing and experience with mechanics and electronics at the hobby level is quite essential. Is this your first printer?
