The worst example I ever saw of that was the Creality CR-10 S5. You can see from these photos just how tiny the heated section was in relation to the entire “heated bed”:
Adding to the deception was that none of these worms-eye views were on display in any of the new printer photos when it was on-offer. Wouldn’t you agree something like this should have come with full disclosure before purchase? I nearly bought one of those printers back in the day before my due diligence turned up this fatal flaw in the stock version. IIRC, Creality kept selling the S5 without modification, or full disclosure to would-be buyers, for many years. I doubt that shipping it back to china would have been an economically viable solution if making the discovery after receiving it. Perhaps people tried to cobble together a DIY heating system, or possibly just gave up entirely and wrote-it-off as a bad purchase.
Yes, one of the youtube reviews shows it successfully printing PPS filament, which is outside the range of what my X1C can do. At least on paper, it seemingly wins on features across the board, except that it currently lacks an AMS. Hopefully Clough42 will do a review on it, as he is the one who spotted a fatal flaw in the Plus3 (which, to Qidi’s credit, was subsequently corrected by Qidi). In my mind that demonstrates a higher commitment to quality than, say, Creality, which has the reputation for, generally speaking, releasing new models rather than correcting known problems in already released models.
Based on the Plus4’s larger build volume, I’m guessing the Max4 (assuming there ever is one) will be at least 400x400mm in xy, or else there may not be enough difference to adequately distinguish it from the Plus4.
Ive been impatiently holding off on anything until I see what bambu has coming. I hope its amazing or just bigger and decently priced. one or the other would be nice but both would be mind blowing.
For the time being, I’ll just stick with my X1C and the XL, to which I’ve recently added a Saturn 4 Ultra. For what I need them to print, these are more than enough. I’m not denying that I could b tempted, should BL comes out with the next best thing (flagship), checking all, or most of, the checkboxes that many of us have been talking about lately…and provided that this next best thing will have really positive reviews from users on the 6 to 12 months afterwards…(and obviously, if the price tag ain’t to high). Then, perhaps, I’ll be considering passing on to my youngest son the XL (he wants the X1C, but sadly for him, he ain’t got any chance for that to happen) and potentially buy the the new BL release. Don’t know yet if it will happen, as my decision depends on what, when, and if BL will launch the new best thing worth my interest, time and money. I’m not very impressed with what BL competitors have come up to date (plus4 not convincing at all)…so, all I have to do is wait and see.
Why do you prefer the X1C over the XL? On paper the XL looks to be the more capable machine (and if it weren’t, it could not support its asking price).
Any person, private or business (They have business and private customer service - with business customer service you have immediate callbacks and much more. For private use you then have email or some waiting time on the phone).
They currently sell 6.3 million different products in Switzerland and the second largest sales company where I often buy also offers phenomenal service. Ordered by 6pm - on your doorstep tomorrow. Any problem picked up immediately and returned to the manufacturer…
You can also buy an X1E ther (more than 10 in stock) or X1C but the markups for the brand Bambulab are at a level that you should think twice about. Well, they’ll know what they’re doing. It is there day-to-day business is dealing with manufacturers and I don’t have to question that.
It’s nothing certain, yet, and it would largely depend on what kind of “new thing” BL will come out with. If (emphasis on if) BL does come up with a new flagship printer, and if the following conditions are cumulatively fulfilled
(i) print volume
(ii) quality
(iii) reliability
(iv) heated chamber
(v) core xy
(vi) …
(vii) positive users reviews after 6 to 12 months
… I might perhaps consider giving the XL to my youngest. He needs to learn, to get his hands “dirty”, to deal with and solve problems… and the XL (although it currently runs fine) is a good way to learn how things work.
May
(vi)… = Easier to maintain, especially on the print head, and more work-friendly.
Well, I pray more that they don’t take so many risks on other tasks that they can’t getting of the table anymore. Then even the X1C would be gone.
Noted – thanks.
Just now seeing the first announcement. Could possibly be interesting, I’ll check it again in 5 months.
Fillament cutter, it seems like they may will adding something else. Let`s pray for Spaghetti detection and TPU in something like AMS. And the size would also be a not too big but nice step forward.
Mechanically, QIDI have Bambulab been dependent on the world for a long time, let’s see if they can get the IT right. And also bring enough prefabricated filament profiles out of the box, which are already installed in the Orcaslicer.
65°C chamber heating, that’s tough - Bambu wants 2600 euros for that. Fan bracket, will probably be improved. 2- Z spindles and not hidden at the back, looks sexy. Looking forward to the reviews in 5-6 months
By the way, a few months ago I bought a fan heater that can stand in rooms at 60°C for months (i.e. can handle ambient temperatures of 60°C and has 18 kW of power) - this fan cost 4500 euros. Fans that can heat at 60°C but cannot be placed in rooms above 45°C would be just 800 euros. 60°C installation space temperature is a real terminator for electronics too. Sometimes you just have to massively heat up entire rooms in order to kill every last living thing without poison - but even switched-off industrial-level high-end machines quickly suffer massive damage abouve 55°C that needs to be repaired. And abouve 55°C at latest, each degree has a massive impact on many components that are not even in operation.
PPS-CF and PPS-GF are the relatively recent engineering-grade filaments being touted as reasons to upgrade. Although quite expensive, they do seem quite remarkable, and I’ll be wanting to try it myself sometime soon. At $120 per roll, for the people who are into that, it makes total sense to upgrade. The X1E can handle it out of the box… and having said that, maybe now even a blind man can see the bigger picture.
I see the new Creality K2 has a smart feature when printing two colours, it prints more layers of the one colour and then loads the second filament and fills in the area gaps left unprinted for the colour change. This second colour then prints a couple of layers more than the first colours last layer, does the filament change and then repeats the entire process again. This will save a lot of time and wasted material. Could be implemented with a software or slicer update on the BL series.
Things like that has been mentioned many times in the forum - Competitors are reading along and bambulab is working on other things Somewhere there is a prioritization setting so that he at least lets out one poop. Somewere in the print sequences of the walls… But it’s been a long time since I read this and maybe I misread it because I wasn’t really interesting to me…
Ok, I lied. lol. Watched some videos and also saw 3 day shipping, I couldnt help myself. Ill still get the big bambu since the qidi isnt big enough for everything I print.
What exactly was it that you found so compelling that you pulled the trigger right away?
After you get it, I hope we can count on you to give us the true inside scoop and whether it met your expectations or fell short somewhere.
I think eventually many people do end up with more than one printer, usually something that in some way complements what they already have. I’ve got 5 now, and the throughput is amazing. So much better than the “An eternity later…” meme of life before. With prices being so much lower now than even just 2 or 3 years ago, it’s easy to do if you’ve got the space to put it all.
Just for my own projects. I’d rather it not be a hobby, if you know what I mean. Ideally, just tools for getting work done and nothing more than that. Like a drill or a saw. Not a hobby. That’s not to belittle them. I like quality tools. I’m fully aligned with how this guy looks at it:
By hobby I mean not a business that aims to sell first or third party models for profit.
I create solutions to problems my friends have, things for their phones, cars, devices, industrial ice cream mixers, drain blockers for blind cats to not get trapped in and more.
Then the stuff for kids of my friends and the almost 600 models I give away here for free.
