Speed Question (coming from a Palette)

Hi - my X1 Combo is not hitting until end of Feb. This will be my 4th 3D Printer in the last 5 years. For color printing, I’ve been using a Palette 2 Pro S for the past few years with an Ender 3 Pro. It’s been successful for the most part, but not without its quirks which is the norm in this industry. Just wondering does the speed of the X1 also apply to color printing? I don’t expect anything even near ludicrous with the AMS, but just wondering if the speed will be a step up from my Palette/Ender combo (I’m pretty sure most people never had a Palette, so this may not get an answer.

I realize a lot has to do with the print size, settings, complexity of the model, etc… I basically print small 2" magnets with a width of like 8mm. One little print at 0.2 layers would take up to 1.5 hours (and that’s with pre-spliced colors). The objects are not detailed - simple pixel characters. Thank you…

Jcat, colour changes are just us slow with the AMS, if anything maybe slightly slower due to the rewinding and wiping after off bed purging.

However once you start printing you can go at full Bambu speed - no need to slow the general printing down like you have to even on an older slow printer with the p2p to make sure it’s buffer doesn’t run out of filament.

Also the off bed purging means the purge tower can be pretty small area wise too - which means less time building it up when you are doing layer changes without colour changes.

Another advantage of the BL colour changing method is that the printer can definitely be sure that the colour change has happened - so less risk of failures or need to include extra purging to allow for timing issues.

Also colour change figures are more likely to be recoverable than they are with the p2p when joints snap.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! The benefits sound like they outweigh the Palette setup in multiple ways. End of Feb. can’t come sooner - just hope they don’t push the date which could happen.
