Hello everyone,

I’ve been on MakerWorld for a while now but I’m brand new to the forum, and I’m trying to get interested in the community that revolves around our hobby.

I came across the debate about adding a links (especially Patreon links) in the description of models shared on MakerWorld, and I wanted to share my perspective and hear your honest opinions on the matter.

I’m planning to offer free models on MakerWorld while also providing exclusive models on a Patreon that I intend to launch. My goal is to find a fair and transparent approach that works well for everyone in the community.

To me, sharing a Patreon link is a way to give those who enjoy my work the opportunity to support it while getting access to additional models. However, I also want to ensure that I’m respecting the community’s expectations regarding model sharing and monetization.

I understand that some may have concerns, particularly about how this could be perceived—as if it were creating a ā€œpaywall.ā€ That’s why I’d love to gather your feedback before moving forward.

  • Would it be acceptable to include a Patreon link in the model description?
  • Would you see this as a reasonable way to fund creative work while keeping free content available on MakerWorld?

My goal is to keep things transparent and fair for everyone, and your input will help me make the best decision. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Jesus, this guy has like every kind of violation of rule 7 you can do in one post, plus advertising for Elegoo AND Chitu in the same post wow.

Holy moly, that’s pretty bad, This one is report worthy for sure.

I’ve noticed a certain popular user hasn’t been doing their external advertising lately

Looking at their profile, they seem to have gotten big off one model and then it’s either spamming the same model in different sizes, some memes, and a lot of asset rips

They have a green tick too, I still can’t get mine!

Not so long ago I reported one guy for external advertising, had links to a competing filament store (and discounts with code as well). My report was rejected, so good luck

They DM’d me a few months back asking if they could send me some filament in exchange for an ad in my descriptions. I declined

Welp, you’re right, doesn’t make ANY sense though, I reported again asking for clarification how it is not in violation of rule 7:

" 7. Advertising such as:

  • Upload a model with obvious advertising information, such as a scan code showing a non-MakerWorld platform in the IMAGE, or a service unrelated to the models
  • provided in the description models including
    • Lottery and other promotional activities without authorization
    • External guidance including but not limited to links or scan code to non-MakerWorld related businesses, organizations, online stores, or websites"

This is one of those instances where the actions contradict the rules as stated, and therefore clarification should be provided or the rules amended, @MakerWorld is there any way to find out more information for both what is and is not acceptable?
