Spool adapters?

Hi

New to AMS lite on my A1 - had it a week. I bought some non Bambu filament - Jayo etc - and printed various spool adapters. My question is whether adapters in general should have a tight/snug fit in the filament spool itself or can they be loose IE is it ok for the spool itself to spin freely when on an adapter? My concern is if the spool mounts are powered then the mount could be turning along with the adapter but the spool is resisting that. For info, one of the adapter types I printed has a screw mechanism which screw tightly onto the spool and therefore the adapter doesn’t spin but other more basic ones do spin.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

IMHO it needs to be a snug fit, or the AMS won’t be able retract filament correctly.

Exactly
And the spool mounts are not powered

Thanks for the answers although still not sure. I can understand they would need to be a tight fit if the mounts were powered as otherwise the mount could be turning and not taking the spool with it. If they aren’t powered, then anything that reduces friction when the filament is retracted would be beneficial since the only force being applied is from the filament itself being extracted and “pushed” back onto the spool. Maybe they don’t need to be tight - just sufficiently fitted so the spool isn’t “hanging” on the mount. FYI, I don’t seem to be seeing any issues printing with the Jayo adapter which I printed even though it rotates freely within the spool.

The Bambu Lab AMS Lite spool holders are powered by a spring, not a motor. The spring is located inside the spool holder and keeps tension on the filament as it’s retracted.

This should solve every cardboard spool adapter issue you have.

Thanks for sharing this link, but these are not needed for an AMS Lite.

For the AMS lite there should be enough friction between the spool and adapter to spring-load the mechanism on the AMS lite in order to have it respool itself when retracting. If you have a spool (like Prusament) that already has a notch a good adapter should have that notch as well for good interlocking. Otherwise it should at least have enough friction.
