Square Tree Supports?

Hello there! So I’ve been playing with Support Painting because I wasn’t suttisfied with the way it was generating tree supports. And then it generated this square shaped tree supports that I really liked because the round one was touching the middle part so it was trying to print support interface there (just waste of support W), but I wasn’t able to replicate it.

Does anybody know how to force Bambu Studio to make these square shaped tree supports?

I would appreciate this as a feature so I could choose whether I want to use round or square tree supports.

What do you think about it?

Hi @Eruveo,

I believe the reason it goes from circle to square is because of the distance you set between each of those small branches at the very top. Try changing the tree support branch distance higher and lower to see if the shape changes. The lower the number, the more likely it will turn to square shape.

There are obviously other factors that will play a part in this, but try messing with this setting first to see if you can replicate it now.

To change support from circle to square:
5mm spacing

1mm spacing

Also, if your circle pattern (or any pattern) is touching your model, just increase the X/Y spacing from the model/supports and it should spread out the distance between them… Sometimes you need to increase the angle of the supports and double wall them if you make this spacing too high as well, so keep that in mind when you mess with the settings.

I personally like the circle branches because it is smoother movements and less likely to pop them off the build plate. You may need to increase z hop in printer/extruder to .6mm too to prevent collision/support popping off build plate as well.

To prevent support from touching model:
1.35mm spacing of model and supports

.35mm spacing of model and supports
