Stand for X1 Carbon

Hi Team,
I’m new here, 1st post. Coming over from resin printing, just got my X1C and love it!
My question is regarding what the X1C is resting on. I’d like to put the printer on a mobile tools cart with drawers (think small 4-drawer Craftsman tool chest), but I’m concerned that it won’t be stable enough and will shake around too much while printing and affect prints. I currently have it on a very sturdy Gladiator workbench with a 1.5" wood top and steel legs, and when the printer is zipping around it shakes that table. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Jimmy D

Welcome Jimmy,

If the tool cart is decently rigid you should be fine to put the printer on it, just be sure to rerun the calibration so it can adjust for the different setup. Adding weight to the tool cart will help. Often people put a large patio stone under the printer.

Jon,
Thanks for the reply and great advice. I’ll give it a whirl and report back.

I recommend a heavy, rigid surface (e.g., concrete slab) with some foam below.
For me, it works flawlessly: https://youtu.be/y08v6PY_7ak.

The printer is made to compensate for the added vibration, but having a solid foundation and/or added weight to stabilize always helps. Many people are opting for 16x16 pavers, one rubber on the desk and a concrete on top of it that the printer then sits on.

Thanks for the excellent feedback. Clearly, more weight is better, loving the patio paver idea.

Thanks, Team!

Team,
I got everything set up, re-ran the calibration, and printed a Benchy which turned out great! I didn’t have foam as thick as what was shown in the video that JayZay shared but I’ll start with this and stack it up if needed. I also was able to take out the bottom drawer of the cabinet and place another 16x16 paver at the bottom of the box, figuring more weight, especially down low, would be good to try.
This is working better than I expected, with almost no shaking during a print!

Thanks for all your input!
