Is there a way to only “grow” supports that start on the model for a small region. The reason I am asking is my hole is about 6" off the build plate and with default settings (and adjusting several) the tree initiates from the base plate and uses a lot of filament only to end up with a very tiny branch in the region where the support is needed. It also looks like for the more inward hole that I have the support initiates within the hole. I’m assuming there is a way…
Have you tried setting the support style to “snug”?
“On build plate only” IS unchecked, right?
That hollow cylinder almost certainly does not require any support anyway.
I would add a support blocker to the hollow cylinder area of your model.
You could consider enabling the “critical only” and altering the “angle” options.
Yes tried snug and un-checking touching build plate only. I just figured there was a “simple” fix that I wasn’t aware of
Can only judge the scale based on the layer lines…
Do you know the support generation is limited to the available space ?
Your tree support struggle because they just don’t have the room to propagate properly.
And unless those small holes have to be perfect you might be surprised to see how well they come out without supports…
If you issue with mainly such small areas you might want to try the snug approach with the normal supports.
Adjust the width and length to match the model needs !
For large areas you can use a wide spacing and let the bridging do the rest
For really small things like your hole you want to try have the orientation match.
E.g.: If this hole is facing the Y direction you want the snug support go in the X direction.
Using Arachne instead of the standard wall generator also helps here.
Have the model spacing and interface pattern match the need and all shall come out just fine with easy to remove supports.
And consider the tickbox for not non critical supports as often you can get away with far less supports than you might think…
The print turned out “fine”.
Even with critical supports only checked the supports still formed. I tried everything I could think of.
It was more a question around is it possible to implement supports in certain regions instead of them being a lot bigger and using more material. Might be a good feature for the future?
I had exactly the same question. I’ve got a simple model with a “roof” that should be easily supportable with support coming out of the walls rather than going all the way to the build plate (attached if anyone cares). It would be a nice feature. Did anyone decide if there is a way to do this?

On a completely unrelated note… does anyone know if I can have my name appear here instead of user_10131…? I did add my name to my profile.
